CYaBro: Hmmm well the installer that came and did my half price deal install wouldn't even run another cable from the satellite since the tv wasn't in the same place any more.
I had to make one myself!

same here. he also was not happy at the lack of a phone socket but soon stopped upon finding there eas no line anyway.

+1 for free install with satellite dish and wiring. No telephone jack nearby either. The technician went into the roof and wired in a splitter at the telephone jack in the hallway. Impressive work.

CYaBro: It sounds like a slack technician. Complain to SKY. The technician gets paid by them and there is heps of competitors so doubtful SKY would be too happy. If you don't want to be confrontational there will (most likely) be a feedback form with your first invoice asking you to comment on the installation process.

Thanks to aaron11: I wrote that summary exactly in order to help other geeks, i.e. Asmodeus.

so it seems i may have spoken too soon.

tech turned up this morning (no advance phone call as promised so stuffed my morning up). He wandered into the house, said what theres no dish ? After I had said no he started swearing to himself. Wandered around outside. Went back out to his truck. As he was heading out to his truck I said where are you planning on installing the dish, he snapped, thats what I'm working out now !! Came back inside (swore to himslef again) said the roof is a last option and then pointed to the apex at the end wall of the house, and said i'll put it there. I said I would prefer the roof, so he said "I'll not bother then !!!" Walked off saying sky do not allow them to install it on the roof. I said I didn't catch his name he said no you didn't ring sky they got it, and then climbed in his van and drove off !!! Leaving me speachless.

My suspicion is he only had specific fittings and did not have one for the roof hence the reluctance to install there. Any talk of better reception where he suggested if twaddle as the roof is about 500mm higher and directly above his recommeded spot.

So anyway have rung sky, made a complaint regarding this guy and trying to get the install rescheduled (different installer of course). Next stage is to writre a letter to Martin Wrigley the director of operations.

How's that for customer service !!

So fair play to sky. After ringing them they organised a different company to come and do the install this afternoon. He finally got away at half 4 !! Hats off to them and the install company for doing that where it'd have been much easier to push out to after Xmas.

Rang the guys at the call centre to thank him and he was stoked with that call.

Just the letter now regarding poor service from one provider and great service from all the others.

Just anyone know if the half price deal is still available? I'm looking at getting sky installed in a couple of weeks time.

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can use the vodafone half price sky sport offer (available on some home phone/broadband packages) with other deals?

Like if I can get the half price sky basic deal that was going a while back, can I then use the vodafone half price sky sport offer at the same time?

Cheers,

Daisy chain the decoders. Antenna into 1st and out to 2nd unless of course no antenna out socket?

Or split the signal into two with a suitable splitter.
eg http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/satellite-terrestrial-splitter-p-55.html

Sometimes when you daisy chain/ use the lnb out port, the first decoder is the one that powers the lnb, so it always needs to be on for the second set top box to work.

Regardless though, don't you call sky for this sort of thing if you have moved house?
