Does anyone know why SKY is showing the world series baseball in SD mode when ESPN who they get the feed off(But not ESPN Australia or PAC RIM as they aren't showing it) does broadcast it in HD?

I asked SKY and they said they only get it SD but it is broadcast in other areas of the world in HD

Are SKY paying less for a SD feed?

Or converting HD to SD to save costs? I ask this as last week coverage of game 3 started in HD for 1-2 seconds with HD logos then went to SD mode.

Thanks for any replies

The main reason is that the rights to the World Series are held by Fox in the US, ESPN carries a feed for the countries throughout the world that have no Fox affiliations. The one we get here is for the european audience.
I thought the Sky coverage here was to say the least pathetic, it was only was it a 4:3 picture that they "blew up" to fill a 16:9 frame and the quality was awful.
If you don't already, I would advise subscribing to MLB.TV were you can get all the games live in near HD quality from the internet.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I did a little research later and thought we got the US military feed.

Anyway FOX must have done it in HD so the feed SKY NZ got was converted to SD then they tried to convert it back to wide screen. No wonder it looked awful.

They still have HD channels in Europe so SKY can't say it was only in SD.

Thanks for the info about MLBtv I am most likely going to get that for next year.

The only good thing about it being in SD was that I didn't have to see crystal clear picture of Tony La Russa and the Cardinals winning the whole thing.

Being the Yankees fan that I am, I was out of it in terms of who won, but I would have preferred the Rangers to take it all.
Never the less, it was one of the best World Series for a while.
