Hello,

I want to get a new handset on contract but not sure what to get so looking for advice but below are my good and bad. To note I am currently using my works Galaxy S2 and mainly use maps, apps and email but not interested in installing a custom ROM.

Galaxy Note 2
+ Like the S3 but bigger screen
 + Pen
 - Might be a little too big at times
 - Still no announcement for contract/release in NZ
 - I do tend to prefer Apple OS rather than Android

Galaxy S3
+ Good spec and can be held in one hand
 + Great maps
 - I do tend to prefer Apple OS rather than Android

iPhone 5
+ Good apps and prefer the OS to Android
+ Reviews show it seems to have the better camera than the others
 - itunes and transfering files
 - Awful maps apparently

I'd wait until the Lumia ranges of phones. Nokia have always been the top of their game with handsets and if Windows can step up to the plate then that will solve their dating software issues.

I've got an iPhone 4 personally, and got my wife an S3. Impressed with both of these phones. Love the screen size on the S3 but hate that with my stubby fingers I have to use two hands.

Also - we do mobile repairs and the S3 is very expensive to fix if you get an LCD issue. Surprisingly much more so than the iPhone range with their Retina Displays.

Although if you manage to get away with breaking the Lens Only on the S3 then select repairers can replace just the lens using a special technique to separate the lens from the LCD.

A bit disappointed that the iPhone 5 doesn't have an NFC chip - and really only a marginal upgrade compared to the 4 and 4S considering the amount of money you'd have to pay to get it.

Cant wait to try Lumia Windows 8 Phones!!!

Not to mention the Alluminium case on the iPhone 5 is easily scratched - unlike the Ceramic Glass on the predecessors :(.

Also pays to note, the S3 (and possibly Note 2) with it's Pentile display is SIGNIFICANTLY (IMHO) inferior to the screen of an iPhone 4/4S/5.

I tend to agree with the nokia comment(however they are heavy well the 920).. However on the Samsung side while I don't much about note 2 reliability wise the note one seemed to be pretty good. S3 we have had a few sent to service and if its anything like the s2 after 8-10 months we have a lot of issues with the micro usb port. Iphone5 is what i chose I got have chosen to order the white because of the scratching issue, iphones do tend to last a bit longer my wife had a iphone 4 for a few years in that same time i went through 3 androids and 1 windows phone. The reason i got rid of my last phone the s3 was after loading my 32gb s3 with 7.2gb of music and 3 gb of divx movie it slowed down far to much. Just my 2 cents but i do have to say i enjoyed using window phone OS the most even if there wasn't as many apps(plus nokia maps are amazing).

Sure if you look at it from a technical standpoint there is plenty you could nit pick about but I've used both the S3 and iPhone 4 and wouldn't really call it a significantly inferior screen (from a users point of view).

Depends how good your eyesight is ;)

I came from an iPhone 4, and my partner has a 4s. If I pick up her phone I instantly notice how much clearer the phone screen looks.

The Retina display in iPhones have a higher pixel density than the Galaxy S3, but more importantly the use of a Pentile screen actually reduces the effective pixel rating by about 1/4 (Due to the way is shares 1 of the 3 sub pixels).

Below is an close up comparison of the HTC One X and the S3 - which both have the same size screen (Well incredibly close) and resolution

In the end decided I fancied a change from Android so went with the iPhone 5, plus my partner has an iPhone and we share the account so most of the apps I were able to get without paying :)

Ha yeah thats(joint account) part of the reason i changed to iphone. generally they last longer too, plus resale value if you decide to sell it is heaps better.
