The only use I have for that much data is backups...and given .com's troubles I wouldn't be surprised if mega blinks offline in a week...so not the best avenue for backups really. The lack of a native client doesn't help either.

This. Don't store anything here you aren't prepared to lose (Or any cloud service)

There are always ways to mitigate the loss, but yes, you're right.  I know there are other ways "cloud" services are taken offline, but I wonder if anyone at the FBI even considered how much damage they have caused the industry with the way they've handled the megaupload case?

Actually you'd be fairly safe with Amazon S3/Glacier, MS Azure etc...so much is already dumped into the those services that a tough titties data loss scenario would be crippling.

I bet 15 years ago it would have been inconceivable that large companies like Enron or something would have failed too. If you value your data, keep it in hand! Or at least keep it in hand AS WELL.

bisr: ... You still are using capped broadband? Really? Been on unilimited Broadband for over a year, no more expensive than a 60GB plan. If you don't trust an outfit like Compass (from whom I have received easily the best phone support from an ISP in the last decade) then Orcon has a similarly priced deal now.

Can this unlimited broadband supports 100Mbps download and 10Mbps upload?

Almost none of our country even has access to UFB yet and he said he was on telstraclear so it is a more reasonable assumption that he is on an adsl connection than not, right?

This is a reasonable assumption if you don't know/ignore the fact TelstraClear has its own HFC network in WLG, CHC and Kapiti (for the last 15 years) and 100Mbps/10Mbps plans have been available for some time now - I have been on a 100Mbps plan for at least two years now (some time before public launch).

"UFB" is not fibre only, you know?

That's basically what I posted above.. :)

No upload happening here either.

What am I using Mega for?

Backups of mine are encrypted locally, then automatically distributed out amongst physical disks in the server, and physical machines on the network, then off up to several different cloud storage providers.

I can handle any 6 of about 7 seperate addresses (NZ and overseas) going down at once, and I still have all my data.

Yay for cheap/free cloud storage.

Visit http://www.thecloud.net.nz for New Zealand based Hosted Exchange, Virtual Servers, Web Hosting, FTP Backup & more.
(1GB free FTP storage, or larger plans from $5.75)

Managed to upload 60% of a 1.4mb file and then it just ground to a halt. Oh well, try again when things have quietened down I guess.
