I've just signed up to justcloud.com and have started backing up my photos - about 20gb. Has anyone else used this service? Any feedback? It seems to be good at the moment - upload speed is around 450kbps so could be faster as my connection is around 800kbps. I signed up for the trial and every day i didn't sign up for paid service, they kept reducing the price. First by 20%, then by 35% then by 50% and finally by 70% which is when i signed up.

Looks like another alternative for Crashplan. How much are you paying for the service after the dicount? What is the normal price without any discount? It looks good but does not give much info on space/pricing with out signing up. This is going off topic a bit but I am thinking about using google to backup my Pictures etc. I have a free google apps account with a personal domain and you can buy extra storage that gets shared across picasa web and google docs. pricing i think is very good compared to some of the other Cloud services out there pricing below (I cant find a link that is public with out the need to sign in) 20 GB ($5.00 USD per year) 80 GB ($20.00 USD per year) 200 GB ($50.00 USD per year) 400 GB ($100.00 USD per year) 1 TB ($256.00 USD per year)

Unlimited storage, free? Not really. They just make very difficult to find the price. Can't trust that. Storage space is unlimited. You can pay monthly, quarterly, half year or yearly. I chose yearly. Standard price was US$71.41 a year but after my 70% discount I got it for $21.42 a year. This includes unlimited storage for backing up all your files, including external hard drives. The max file size per file is 3gb. They also give you a Sync Folder which you can install on multiple PC's. You can drag and drop any file to this folder and it will be synced to the server. This feature does have a 1gb storage cap though. From the FAQ: How long will it take to backup my files? If your computer is left to run and is connected to the internet, you will be able to backup at an average of 3-4GB per day. This will be made significantly faster if you are on a fast upload connection JustCloud does not restrict the bandwith of any of our users however we do delay the processing times of files for heavy storage users. Where is my data stored? JustCloud stores all data using Amazon S3 storage servers; the most comprehensive and reliable storage provider available on the internet. So far I'm liking the web interface for viewing your PC's file system of backed up files. The software itself is pretty good and easy to use. There are limitations though - you can only schedule an auto backup once per day however you can purchase an addon for $20 a year to increase this to allow hourly backups. You can also purchase additional addons to increase the sync folder storage space. The support was pretty good - i received email replies within 45 minutes.

Are the files encrypted client side, or server side? It doesn't seem to say on their website, or at least I haven't found it.

This also from their FAQ: We maintain secure Amazon s3 data servers which cannot lose your data, your data is not only safe but also secure ? it is encrypted and no one but you can access it.

I guess that sort of answers it, but it's nowhere near as explicit as crashplan's Backup data is encrypted with a 128-bit (CrashPlan) or 448-bit (CrashPlan+) data key before being transmitted using 128-bit encrypted communication. Data remains encrypted once it reaches the destination and is never unencrypted until restored by you http://www.crashplan.com/consumer/security.html

I'll submit a ticket and ask them - let you know what they come back with. I think they are a fairly new service, they have an android/iphone app in the making - currently have a mobi site though.

All data is transferred using a 256 bit AES encryption and is stored on the most heavily monitored server center in the world; the Amazon s3 data center."

So, the data is encrypted during transfer, but no word about storage and if they are able to read it? With Crashplan you can create your own key and no on can read that... I use Amazon S3 via Jungle Disk and I have an option to create my own encryption key or choose to leave the data unencrypted. If this service is saying that your data is encrypted (without asking you for a key) then it's possible that they have a master key for all their clients on Amazon S3 which doesn't sound good at all.

Hmmm... I'm still not convinced that the data is encrypted strictly on the client side. It may well be, but it just isn't explicit enough to be sure.
