As I'm only backing up photos and hd family videos, i'm not too concerned if someone can potentially view it.

I wouldn't like it, but it wouldn't exactly be the end of the world. And i don't think some guy working at justcloud would have all that interest in my family videos.

If i was backing up sensitive business data then i would have reason to be concerned if there was a lack of security.

The thing is, if this company disappears then will you still have access to your backed up data?

Services like Jungle Disk let you use your own Amazon S3 account, which means you can change your backup syncing software/provider and your data stays in the same place.

Just an update, i cancelled my justcloud account and have received a refund under their any time moneyback guarantee offer.

I found the uploading speed to be about half the speed of my connection. The support was great - always received a response within the hour, however I noticed things like spelling mistakes and broken links.

It seems like a good "cheap" service if you are just after backup for non sensitive data.

I have since chosen to go with SugarSync - so far i'm loving it!

At theCloud (theCloud.net.nz) it's $0.28 per GB per month, FTP and FTP over SSL so you choose if the transfer is encrypted and you can store whatever you like (encrypt if you want). I use a bit if software called Backup Premium which encrypts and can handle incremental backups etc. It's all in New Zealand too so speed is better and data is protected.
