So I got a Tivo at one of these $200 sales the other day and saw there was a networking package is required to transfer recordings around your network...You buy the package and get sent a Media Access Key and have the webserver enabled on your device from what I can tell. Sounds straight forward. So why would I want to do that if I can already connect to the device via https, already have a MAK and can copy files from it to my PC? I get the HNP lets you download a full featured Tvio app for your PC/Mac which lets you change it's format to mp4 or whatever... Surely I'm missing something else here. Secondly, what sorts of transfer speeds do you get from your device? I've got mine wired through the adsl router (10/100) but only get a pitiful 2.7MB/s to the media pc which is also wired to the same router. From memory the wireless speeds were understandably much worse - around 1.2 MB/s

You need the HNP to transfer files from TiVo to your computer. I get around 10 Mbps when transferring on a wired connection or around 8 mbs on wireless.

You only need one HNP key per network, no matter how many tivos are on it as it's linked to the account not the devices, if you are already using another peice of software and it's working for you, stick with it. Are they giving part of the HNP away now or something? Dukester are you using a gigabit switch and/or wireless N?

From pc on network enter in https://tivo-ip Get untrusted certificate prompt / accept Get user:password prompt End up on screen showing recordings on Tivo. Each recording has its size and the option to link to a MPEG-PS and MPEG-TS. Click on a link prompts another User:pwd request and then the browser begins saving the *.tivo file Open Tivo file on PC using Windows Media player (have already installed Tivo Software) I haven't tried viewing my own recordings on a pc yet due to the size however the tutorials work fine. My understanding is that this is just the backend which the tivo pc software interfaces with. I can also access the Tivo using that software directly as well.

Hmm... just done a quick bit of googling...... Looks like there is a web server embedded in Tivo's try the following https://192.168.1.7 Replace the ip with the ip address of your tivo(s) Don't forget it's a HTTPS Accecpt the certificates, The login name is Tivo the password is your media access key, hey presto you now have a list of recorded shows you can transfer easy. So what other web server pages are avaliable?

Yeah but gished appears to be getting into his without a media access key.... Am I reading that right? How are you getting on with passwords?

(I'm at work, so I can't check my device) IMPORTANT NOTE: After activating your TiVo and completing the guided set-up, it takes up to 24 hours to receive your Media Access Key. Until you receive this key on your device you will not be able to utilise the Home Networking Package features. To see if the Media Access Key – select Messages and Settings> Account & System Information > Media Access Key -- http://support.mytivo.co.nz/index.php?action=artikel&cat=18&id=38 So that sounds like everyone has a MAK, regardless of whether you have puchased the HNP

Exactly gregmcc! The first thing I did once I got the Tivo working was checked around the net to see what networking stuff was available. It initially took >24 hours for the tivo webserver to display a page but after that I just did as you mentioned using tivo:(MAK#) as the credentials. I'm pretty sure I can also connect using the tivo software which from memory was downloaded from a tivo.com address (opposed to a *.co.nz address) The installer asked for my location so I don't imagine d/ling it from the NZ Tivo site would have been any different. That asked for my MAK as well when I was setting it up

On the tivo side you can view your photo stored on your PC, stream MP3's from your PC
