I have just purchased a new TiVo and am really happy with it so far.

I have a few issues with the audio being output to dolby digitial...

  • the volume differences between channels is ridiculous
  • the 'fake' 5.1 on TVNZ is quite bad (I prefer to let my amp decode it as pro logic)
  • TV3 sends dolby as 2.0 unless the show is in 5.1, again I'd rather have my amp decode it to Pro Logic than be forced to 2.0
Before TiVo, I had my TV set the default audio to stream to the non Dolby Digital one, whenever there was a show on TV3 (CSI for example) I could change the audio stream fairly easily.

On the TiVo I don't see an option for default audio stream (I see default language).

I can change audio output from Dolby Digital to PCM (this fixes most issues) but then I can't change the stream whenever a true 5.1 show is on without changing the output back to dolby digital all the time.

Any thoughts on how I could get aronud this are appreciated.

I to had this problem and found it significantly better by changing the audio output in the TiVo to "Dolby Digital" rather than "Dolby Digital to PCM".
