Skolink:
alisam: It is happening all too often now.

Get Dan to enable logging on your TiVos. Either Hybrid will get some useful data and hopefully fix the issue for us all, or Murphy's law will apply and your problems will disappear.

It's already on and I have sent files to Dan.

PimpMyMagic: Alisam. Way back you mentioned that this fault only happens with TV1 as I recall.

Can you change the record channel to 7 (TV1 + 1), and see if the fault still occurs?

Don't see why not.
I'll give it go

The Engineers are examining them, but it takes time.
The more logs we get, the easier it is to nail something down.

FYI
I have been emaiing Dan with issues.
I have noticed that 2 regular programs which overlap on a weekday have problems with sound. There is no pattern as to which gets the sound and the other does not.
Also, sometimes, the same program recorded on 2 TiVo's has no sound (othertimes one is OK).

Has anyone got a solution to this?
My unit has just started playing up. Again only on TV1, and only when two programs run back to back (Breakfast and Good Morning yesterday and today).
I've only just been told about the problem by my wife (who isn't pleased at all!)

It's our second unit, the first I returned to Bond and Bond after a year when it started pixellating recordings on TV3 and TV4. This one has been fine until now!

My wife has complained that it has been happening again lately after not happening for a while. Also the missing audio issue has been occurring again. Could be TVNZ, could be the TiVo.

Perhaps you missed my earlier comment in this thread...

What is very interesting is that when all 3 recordings are uploaded to a PC (Vista), they all have sound via Windows Media Player.

I still have issues.

Until Dan says otherwise, I think logging is still turned on. I can only give Dan what he asks for. I am continuing to save programs which have issues, just in case. But, to be honest, I have not had much feedback recently. The last comment from Dan was they had found something interesting in my logs, but it takes time.

So, at the moment, I try to avoid overlapping programs (rightly or wrongly).

I record 3 or more consecutive programmes with overlaps nearly every day on TV1 but haven't had an instance of the fault since Dan enabled logging on my machine several weeks ago.
However, my name is Murphy!

Yes, your post did remind me that I found the same thing when we first got TiVoHD 3 years ago. I logged a fault with HybridTV and copied the offending recording to my PC and offered to send it to them.

I had this problem occur again - first time in ages - while recording 3 consecutive programmes on TV1.

When the 2nd recording started on what I'll randomly call tuner 2, the current recording on tuner 1 went mute to the end. The recording on tuner 2 was fine.

When the 3rd recording started, back on tuner 1 again, it was entirely mute when I went to view it while the recording was continuing.
After recording completed, however, I found that the audio resumed about 4 mins in.
I transferred the 1st and 3rd files to my second TiVo where both played with identical mute sections to the original recordings.
I transferred the 3rd file to my pc using TiVo desktop, where the audio played completely (no mute bits).

This would suggest that the fault causes some disruption to the audio recordings which defeats the TiVo's decoder, but which Media Player can play without disruption.

Again, after no sign of this fault for 4 or 5 months, I had an occurrence last week.

As always it was on TV1 triggered at the time of an overlap between consecutive programmes. The first programme had a glitch in the recording at the time of the second tuner starting recording the next programme.
I could not play through this glitch and had to do a brief shuttle-by, before I could continue the last bit.
The next programme on the second tuner had no playable audio on it.

I did a reboot of the TiVo and the fault hasn't occurred since, despite regularly doing consecutive programme records from TV1.

I thought I would watch the programme on my pc where Media Player normally replays these "mute" recordings with sound ok.
I tried several times to copy the programme to my pc. While the programme was present in the "List of programs to transfer" every copy attempt failed with the message that the programme couldn't be found???

The action of the fault is such that it seems to record the audio using a different codec from the usual one - and one for which TiVo doesn't have a matching decoder, while media player does.

Doing a system reboot appears to clear the fault but of course does nothing for my broken recording.

This is driving my wife crazy at the moment (mainly with TV2 though). Thanks for the tip regarding the reboot. Are you sure about the codec? I thought TiVo just recorded the raw data stream from the DVB-T mux. I'll have to try transferring some more recordings.

No. I am not sure. I was just saying it seems like this sort of effect. Why would a recording not play audio on the TiVo but it would play OK on WMP after doing a transfer?

I had a rash of occurrences last time and it cleared after a reboot.
This time I just did a reboot right away and no problems since. Who knows when it will fail again though?
