I had assumed because the TiVoHD had to be specially adapted to DVB-T for NZ/Au there was little chance of a new one being adapted for us. However I just looked at the TiVo website and discovered that the TiVo Premiere is available in all three reception flavours (Cable, Sat, Terrestrial). Maybe we will get something new.

Now THAT would be a concept... Instead of taking the 'best value' position at the lower end of the market, why not go for the ultra bling approach right at the top step. Want a HTPC? No? Then the top end Tivo could be an obvious choice.

Read the specs though. TV input sources Digital cable (QAM only) and Verizon FiOS?, does not support analog cable, antenna (ATSC), satellite or AT&T U-verse.

A lot of people just hate the idea of on-going bills. They want a single, one-off purchase. Many people also hate Sky and everything it does... So it's either time for the market to put forward a high end PVR - or a device that makes it incredibly easy for the layman to get content off the web (in STB form).

It doesn't matter if it's the best box and user interface in the history of the universe, if there's no content it's still essentially a paperweight. If they did something cheeky, like adding both satellite and terrestrial tuners and letting it accept a Sky card, and also beefed up the feature set to include a proper mainstream DLNA server for all connected devices (without needing the HNP, copy to PC, transcode on PC etc as intermediate steps) and an ad-skip button, then I would be in like the proverbial robbers dog.

Thats why they needed tvnz to put ondemand content onto it (including tvnz 7 content), as well as the stuff that is on heartland tv (which is exclusive to sky) that we paid for out of our licensing fee and taxes. Perhaps they could get some of the content from the film and tv archives. Perhaps they could form some relationship with media works, to put their ondemand content onto it.

So to boost the HD from 300GB to 1TB boosts the price from $200 to $750? That dog won't hunt, monsigneur!

You just described a Vu+Duo with a terrestrial tuner added didn't you? As before, there's no need for more than 3 tuners, unless the software has limitations.
