I'm looking to buy a pvr and was considering the DishTv T1020 but then I noticed some Tivos for sale on Trademe so now I'm considering getting one of those instead. But since Tivo has been pulled from the NZ market, I'm wondering will the Tivo EPG work well into the future, or could the rug be pulled from under it at any time? And if that happens is the device useless or is there any way to convert it to work with Freeview EPG?

Discussed previously in forums. TiVo keep promising that they will continue to support the product in NZ.

The TiVo would certainly be a far superior product over the T1020, which I think only has a single tuner?

The standard EPG cannot be used on a TiVo.

There is nothing to suggest that the tivo epg will cease working. I beleive it is still being sold in Oz, so as long as they keep selling it over there, I would expect it to be continue to be supported. It wouldn't be a good look for the tivo brand if it suddenly stopped working.
Tivos are great devices for what they are and the price.

Yea, TiVo have said that they are going to support the service.
I definitely recommend a TiVo device, its brilliant!

And if the official service ceased, a community EPG would no doubt be created as exists for Series 1 TiVo.

Have a look at this thread and see the comment made by DanHybrid in Australia.

We had a DishTv T1020 about a year ago. We upgraded to Tivo. Was never really happy with the T1020.

Interesting thread thanks for the link, I guess the answer to my question is that it's a bit uncertain but there's a good chance it will be supported for some years to come.

Just curious, why were you not happy with the T1020?

I've noticed that since the TiVos have been discontinued, their price has increased somewhat on Trademe - before this, they were going for cheap as chips.

Probably also because Telecom is no longer giving them away for free.

And you pay a lot more for one too. I would prefer a Lexus over a Toyota, but the Toyota still does the job well
