Re the below standard reply to those upset about Tivo, Tell me if I am wrong but isn't this communication on the email a little backward.

Firstly we missed out if we didn't register before March 31st.....Errmmmm well why would we if;

"Also Home Networking Package is unfortunately not available in New Zealand currently but you can submit a registration of interest at the following address: http://www.mytivo.co.nz/abouttivo/contactus/ where you should select the contact reason “I want to know when the Home Networking Package is available to buy”."

Subject: Case TKW-3047 - HNP offer in NZ

Hi ,

With the Home Networking Package offer, this was only available to customers that purchased their units on or before the 21st of March and the Home Networking Package offer were activated on their Dashboards on the My TiVo website on or before the 31st of March 2010.

Unfortunately customers who did not purchase and redeem before these dates are not eligible for the offer and all requests will be declined.

Also Home Networking Package is unfortunately not available in New Zealand currently but you can submit a registration of interest at the following address: http://www.mytivo.co.nz/abouttivo/contactus/ where you should select the contact reason “I want to know when the Home Networking Package is available to buy”.

Regards,

TiVo Support

Another annoying fact is that you cannot season pass record Prime..... particularly TopGear, one of the reasons I got it in the first place.  Again this took a ridiculous amount of effort in suffering the incompetence of Telecom support staff to finally discover that this is normal..RIGHT!.

You can set a "season pass" of sorts, as long as you you know what time it is on and what channel it is on, you can set a recurring manual record for that time/day/channel. Not the best scenario but easily doable. All the recordings will have the same name "Contact Prime if you want..blah blah" but at least you can record it. And download it to your PC and rename them...oh, sorry just remembered, sore point.

5 Minutes reading here would have alerted you to the whole Prime/Maori TV EPG debarcle. Hopefully this gets sorted out at some point.

For all the benefits of TiVo, the EPG on prime is no big issue. Prime and their advertisers are missing out on my viewing as I never know what is on that channel and as a result, I never watch it.  Maybe the odd Midsomer Murder on a Saturday night but apart form that it gets the big skipola

Thanks DLS

I did figure that one out and yes annoying that there a re no recording titles, I was just ranting of the short coming that a main stream device has.

However, the iPhone and the TVNZ app has all the channels schedules ERG including Prime, Tivo Gene doesn't.

Hummm and thanks for reminding me about your ability to TIVO-PC grrrrr ;)

If it's any consolation I don't even use mine.  Undecided What I mean is that I was excited at first but soon discovered that the files are just too big and the .tivo format is too problematic to convert to any useful format.

I don't know why TiVo's is holding out on the Media Key, does it cost them anything?  Do they have to pay some kind of blanket royalty on this feature?

They also want more $ to be able to transfer divx files to the TiVo by buying their Desktop Plus software.  But there is other software that will do this. Azureus/Vuze for example has a TiVo server which converts and transfers [with mixed results]

I understand the reason why we dont get the option of HNP is that the 2 companies did not come to any agreement on selling it!! therefore its not available and not stocked in Telecom Stores. The 2 companies need to get there act together and serve us the customer!!

I must say I am gald I got my HNP when we did, and I even transferred a Home Holiday Movie back to the TiVo so my wife could watch it at her leisure.  She is a techno-phobe, even using as PC scares her.  So it does make it easy.  I do the techie stuff :D

I have the HNP, how are you transferring things onto the TiVo using it? On my TiVo desktop, the tab for video is greyed out with a schpeel about upgrading to Pro?

I have done it in the past using Vuze but didn't like the results.

The upgrade to plus was free.  When you log into mytivo there should be a Desktop Plus Key listed.  Personally I use pytivo for transferring files.

You could always get a Series1 TiVo also, they can be picked up pretty cheaply these days. Also handy as a second recorder when the back-to-back show issue arises on the TiVoHD.
