Also, JayJay-- the friend that said that it is happening-- is he/she someone in the know at MTV?
Crossing my fingers!

The person who did successfully receive a positive response from Maori TV advised that they were anticipating doing this in 2012.

What frustrates me is that they are now reverting to their standard responses with no details of their intention.  Have just dropped another tweet.

Very annoying.

JayJay-- can you ask your friend to email back with that reply and ask for the status on it?

Maybe we should start an online petition that can catch all the new Tivo buyers and us given the recent price drop in Tivos will catch more buyers.

It is relatively easy to select (copy) a generic statement and insert that (paste) into an email response though.

A few months back I was writing a web app that would show all the free-to-air EPG data when I contacted them they were hesitant but basically said OK (if the data was being used non-commercially).

Frankly there never seems to be much on MTV that I'd want to watch.

I'd much rather get Prime on the EPG! How about a blitz to Prime instead!!

How about a blitz to both,

Best way to get the message across is post a note on their facebook page asking why, it's very public everyone including their advertisers see it as negative publicity

And maybe with a link to a petition?
How many would be in? Anyone good at doing a wording of it? If we all posted the same thing it could have a nice effect.

Personally I don't think that a petition is going to change much, they are ridiculously strict and it has been this way for many years now.

"Give your damn EPG info to TIVO, that way people might start watching your channel?"

Hahah I was thinking of more of a "catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinegar"  approach.

Perhaps it could be a question for the politicians, especially as it is election time. If you vote for us, we will get prime and maori onto the EPG of tivo.

If more people are now going to buy them through retail outlets, both sky and maori tv are likely to get more and more people pestering them.
Posting on their facebook page and twitter is definitely an idea too.

Well I emailed Jonathan Coleman last week with a complaint over his handling of his Broadcasting Portfolio and the response was
" by law the Minister of Broadcasting cannot interfere in matters of editorial content, or what is presented and how it is presented."

so I wouldn't hold out for much hope of political intervention.

TiVo could easily access the publicly available programme information on MTV's Web site and use it to provide some EPG data to their users - and similarly with Prime.
It's only 4 days for MTV and 7 for Prime, but that would largely satisfy most TiVo users.

The problem is TiVo is so near bust in Aus and pretty much dead in NZ with TVNZ having written off their $7m investment and abandoned the scheme and Telecom are only there to try to offload their mountain of hardware for some small return. Hence after many giveaways and huge price reductions they've now offloaded stock to regular retailers at probably junk prices.
There's no financial incentive to generate new software to achieve this. We're lucky that most channel data is still being made available, even if full of errors and omissions.
