meremaiden: Anyone good at doing a wording of it?

By withholding your program EPG data from Tivo you are directly not progressing one of your stated Strategic Directions of being valued and embraced.  It is harder to embrace a channel that is not prepared to do all it can to make information about it's content easily available to all viewers, which should be in the interests of promoting Te Reo and Tikanga Maori in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Māori Television has two key long-term major outcomes. Those are to:
Significantly contribute to te reo and tikanga Māori being increasingly valued and embraced

Being state funded, I'd also be looking to lodge an official information act request as to what exactly constitutes the 'financial reasons' response they keep providing.

I'll ask my reporter mates, as they're right up with the play on that side of things. Might not be viable if it's business sensitive but if not then they'd probably be advised to stump up some reason why they're not providing Tivo with EPG data. Given all other (free to air) TVNZ stations are providing this, I'm sure it would be a laugh to hear.

I'm recommending Tivo to others, at the price it's being advertised at you get a lot of hardware for your money. It's disappointing that the software isn't a bit smarter than it is though with regards to maximising its potential from the twin tuners. I'm still using a freeview unit and am quite happy with it really. The guide is clear and the series link mostly works. I can't guarantee an internet connection so I'm not comfortable getting my EPG data that way personally.

Good luck with your guide data quest, but looking at PlayTV, it's a murky area for sure.

Well "I love my Tivo, and my Tivo loves me". So much so the Tivo stork is sending me a free one from Telecom.

Ok, that sounds a bit weird, but seriously I've never had problems with the programing except of course for Prime/Maori. I hate the Freeview EPG. The Tivo one is far superior. With exception of possibly Sky or a HTPC what other PVR has a nicer EPG? Dont all the others have the crappy Freeview one?

Back on Topic. I had thought of sending emails to Prime and Maori major advertisers to see how they feel about there expensive advertising dollar not reaching a segment of the population on those channels. Problem is I don't know who they are because I don't watch them very much due to no EPG! Sheez!

Well, I think it is worth the effort to watch prime and maori tv for a few hours each, carefully noting each advert playing.

Make up the list of advertisers.

Write a form letter saying why you don't watch prime/maori tv because of the lack of epg and as a result because they advertise on those channels you will go out of your way to NOT purchase any products made by theses advertisers.

Forward this letter on to prime/maori tv along with the list of advertisers and give prime/maori time to digest the information and reply, if the reply is still no epg then forward a copy to each advitiser.

Any one who wants to participate in this exercise please PM me

If we all do a little bit each then it is an easy task

Since it comes down to money maybe this is the way!

Is there that much advertising on maori, due to it being taxpayer funded. As we do pay for it from our taxes I don't think they have any right to withhold the EPG to certain devices, it should be open sourced.

If you care about the issue, it's also worth writing to the Minister of Broadcasting, including using the Official Information Act to ask for details of any correspondence or discussions with Maori TV over the issue. This means they can't just use a fob-off reply. Writing to your local MP is also an option.

Maori TV needs government funds even more than it needs its advertisers, and I don't know whether advertisers are vulnerable to this type of pressure but politicians certainly are. If enough correspondence from irritated voters starts to come their way, they are likely to do something.

Also, if anyone has any friendship with any non-government parties (Act, Greens, NZ First, or possibly Labour - but they allowed it on their watch too), planting a couple of suggested parliamentary questions wouldn't go amiss.

Epg now includes Maori tv :) (and they're showing NBA games from this hocking season!)

Now to focus on prime's epg

Agree, but hope we're wrong too!

As I've said before, I really don't know where the competition between Sky and freeview/tivo etc comes from, given they have totally different content.  Tivo is competition in the PVR sense, but then so is a myfreeview PVR unit, which does have the Prime EPG.  Tivo is not competition for Sky with regards to live sports/more current movies/rubbish channels of fashion or cooking etc etc.  They're just plain different.
