I've been keeping a close eye on NL and Bond and Bond stock over the last 2 weeks. There were no units anywhere in Auckland last weekend. Only the refurb ones. The ones for $129 would have been refurbs because when I picked up my $99 units I asked if they had any new ones and it was an absolute no. Sounds like they put the price up because they were moving fast.

on topic...just.... Got my new 99 dollar Tivo and want to have both Tivo's going and have just noticed that the Tivo's don't have an aerial in and out so i can't daisy chain them...hmmm....

So my question is - I will have to split the incoming aerial but I have an inline power injector for my UHF aerial (draco 200) - should i split it before the injector or after?

Talk about first world problems - before Tivo I had Freeview player - no record and family were happy'ish - now with 1 Tivo they complain can't record 2 channels and watch a third.....

I would split it after the power injector

Please tell me how and with what equipment (if there's something extra to be connected) you are going to do this. I also need to split my signal from the UHF aerial but am not sure how to go about doing it.

Something like this http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/product/L4270/2-way-plug-type-splitter with the appropriate cables/gender converters

for splitting mine I used the dick smith L4743 splitter. It has 1 female in 2 male out.  Didnt need any gender changes then

You need to train your family to stop watching live TV, although they will probably change their habbits eventually anyway.

Definitely inject the power before the splitter - closest to the wall socket, otherwise you will inject the power into the other TiVo. It may not survive, or it will 'short out' the power supply and prevent your amp from getting power. Alternatively you could get a splitter with power pass-through on only one output.

You should try to buy a UHF 2-way splitter that has "F" connectors on its input and outputs. It's likely to be more modern and also to have power pass through, though this doesn't matter if you connect it after the power inserter as suggested in previous posts.
The fewer plug converters you have the more reliable your wiring will probably be. Besides, "F" connectors are generally more reliable than the older Belling Lee or PAL type.
You'll also need two short co-axes with "F" connecters to go from the splitter to each TiVo.

I've just had to buy on behalf of someone, a 'new' unit on Trademe for $137 as sadly I don't live in Auckland.
EDIT: why doesn't strikethrough text style work? I'm not really sad that I don't live in Auckland ;)

An update on the two units I purchase on Monday. First one works like a dream. Second one lasted one night then grey screened/rebooted. Looks like dodgy HDD. I took it back to the clearance centre and swapped for another one today.

I notice its the same gear that was there Monday but they increased the price to $129. Still about 10ish left. Was about 60 on Monday.

Ah well, looks like its another week till I can get one anyway so they will prob all be gone by the time I get around to going out there. Did they give any hints as to if there are still more again to come out?

Must have been a few Friday quality runs in Mexico in late 2009 or whenever these were produced.  Judging by the number being DOA I'd expect there'd be a few more to come.

I'm surprised nobody knows what's specifically failing yet.  At the clearance price they're cheaper than a new hard drive alone, which is crazy good value really.
