My Tivo that I bought online from Bond and Bond during one of their $199 deals died..started randomly crashing and restarting during playback...then it was crashing during recording. Got more and more frequent..finally today it wont get past the "Welcome, Powreing up" screen at all.
Spent the last week on the phone/email to Tivo, Telecom and then Hybrid in australia. Hybrid says it needs to be replaced but seeing I bought it from B&B I have to return it to a store and plead my case to them, yay.

Not sure why you wouldn't have gone to B&B on day 1. Thats how it works if something breaks and certainly shouldn't require pleading your case given the timeframe.

They should just do a straight switch instore as long as long as they have stock. email or phone them just to confirm. When I phoned tivo support/telecom for a device that died, they gave me a reference number to give to the retailer and said that it should be a straight swap. Telecom said even if it is out of warranty they will still just switch it, and it is covered by the CGA.

I don't even know if they do repair them in NZ?

Took the faulty Tivo back to a local Bond & Bond today..they swapped it for new unit without much fuss (just a phone call to the manager to confirm they swap rather than repair Tivos) and then they took detailed notes on what was wrong with the faulty one.
Got home, de-registered the old one and set up the new, all running fine so far, fingers crossed...

It is a pain though, as you lose all your old recordings if you hadn't transferred to your PC. I wonder what they will do when they have cleared their stock. I presume they will do what telecom did, and they will courier you a new one with tickets to send it back to tivo.

I do wonder how much stock is actually left?
Whenever Tivo's aren't being adveritsed, my local Noel Leeming have it on the floor, but with no pricing.
There's pricing on EVERYTHING else instore, but not on the Tivo... almost as if they don't want to sell it outside of promo time?

So, the current price is $299?  And I have to subscribe to this thread to get a message of any new sales?   :)

The usual method is "junk" mail as here may be a day behind. Since Noel Leeming did it for $199 previously I'd be watching the Easter sales.

For anyone looking for a $199 TiVo, Noel Leeming have them in store only, from this weekend until Wednesday 25th April. This is from their ad in the first section of the Saturday Herald.

I'm guessing there can't be many left as NL and B&B aren't selling them online any more.

My local Noel leering is selling Tivo 320s for $99 clearance.

I'm notentirely sure what they are... I don't have a freew view tv - at the very least could I use it as a 'freeview'converter for my non free view tv? Could I still record digital TV? I assume you need broadband to get epg...(electronic programme guide?).

What is Caspa? Do you HAVE to sign up to it? Is there any subscription to TiVo services?

Whats the home networking package? Do you have to get it?

Thanks!

grab 2 or 3 at that price.  Yep totally digital tv and excellent for recording all you want.   HNP get it as then you can copy what you have recorded from the tivo to pc or if you have a movie on pc you want to transfer to tivo you can do that. Yes you do need broadband for epg.

CAspa is movie and tv on demand but really nothing much there worth watching.  So i reluctantly signed up to quickflix.  If caspa was like quickflix I would go to caspa without hesitation

There's no "TiVo service". Once you buy it the TiVo is just like other Freeview recorder - free. CASPA is an on-demand movie service, but the titles are pretty old at the moment.

I'm in Auckland :)

I might see if I can get one - if they aren't already gone. I think a bunhc of people picked them up and looked but were puzzled at what they were.

Thanks for the info!

So you don't even need to sign up for Caspa for it to work? On the side of the box, it says you need:
1) Broadband (for EPG, which I assume means electronic programme guide or some such).
2) Freeview reception
3) caspa signup.

(plus a couple other things).

If this is JUST a digital TV freeview Hard Disk Recorder, $99 seems pretty cheap to me....

How does HNP work? Is it a download add-on? Who do you actually pay? I guess you get a tivo account to make EPG work?

Man, they must really have botched the launch if Telecom couldn't communicate what this is.
