Coming in late, but...

I'm considering a new SLR - but the only reason I'll switch is to go to a full frame sensor. And I can't afford that for a while, so I'm staying with my old Sony A350 for now :)

timmmay: I've attached the same image at 5ppi and 5000ppi to this post...

They look the same right?

Actually the 5000ppi looks substantially better to me:

That's interesting. They look identical on my PC at home and my PC at work, Firefox and Chrome. What browser are you using?

Seriously, the second image looks better here too.

First has over-saturated colours and more noise aroudn the pictures and text.

I'm in a very similar situation.  Happy to keep using my older DSLR until I can afford something significantly better.

This looked a good deal for anyone else starting out:

Suggest you do a bitwise comparison of the two files.

Just chucking in my 2c here... have you considered waiting for the EOS M? It's the mirrorless version of the 650D and imho you get the best of both worlds- a small light camera for snaps, and something capable of handling a bit of glass for those better shots.

I have a 60D and I would seriously consider the M for a second body.

Otherwise, +1 for what Timmmay says.
