I was wondering if anyone knows anything about time lapse photography? Is it possible to do this with a video camera that doesn't have a time lapse feature? I.e. record the footage and do it using editing software?
Any info would be appreciated. I have a Canon XA10 and use Avid MC.
You could record the scene and then speed up the framerate in a 3rd party piece of software like Adobe's Premiere Pro. I'm sure there will be free alternatives out there too though.
Yeah I was thinking that's probably the only way.. was just hoping someone had a magical idea that didn't involve continuously recording for hours and hours :P
Hi - I've shot various timelapse sequences on old Super 8 movie cameras, digital SLR cameras & a Sony Digital 8 video camera that has the functionality built into the menu. If your camera doesn't have it as a function (could be called image sequence or something...), you could search the web for a work-around - some video cameras have firmware that can be 'hacked' to increase functions, or maybe a remote can be attached to a port...? Otherwise you may have a digital still camera that has a timelapse function (some point & shoot type cameras do have this built in), or maybe a DSLR that has it (some Nikons) or a Canon that can be controlled by an electronic remote...? If you get a series of still jpeg images Quicktime Pro will simply grab the whole folder of files and convert them into a video file. Errr.... failing all that... I'm a photographer based in Wellington & available for assignments....
