I have a client who I am helping setup a business facebook page. The problem is that facebook as already automatically setup a facebook page for this business, and that is the page that appears if someone does a search in google or facebook. The page is listed as a 'company' page  and has under it, community pages are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, anyone associated with the topic.

My clients one can't be found in searches due to this one popping up instead. I have tried to just about everything to get it 'merged' or to 'claim' the page, but there is no longer any option in the left 'cog', to claim an automatically created page. I have experimented, but creating both a 'page, and a 'place' for this business, and there is no option to merge the 'facebook' generated page with the proper one, under 'resources' like there normally is.

I have also reported the automatically generated one to facebook, as a duplicate page, and given them the correct link, but that was done a few weeks ago, and nothing has been done about it. Anyone know what can be done. The only other option is to file a trademark infingement form to facebook. I am wondering if it has anything to do with 'likes' as the automatic one has more likes than the official proper one. Any facebook experts out there with any possible solutions? Obviously facebook themselves don't provide any support, and their help pages don't have anything that covers this problem.

Anyone with any suggestions? I see this has been moved into the social networks section, which doesn't appear to be used too much.

I have never used this but, you could try deleting the page you set up (painful i'm sure) and waiting to see if the claim option reappears on the other page.

It seems you are probably aware of facebook's internal DCMA submission process, that might get some action.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, good luck!

unless the 'claim' option reappears when you are not logged in as that user?

Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried logging in via different users, and also setup multiple pages (boths pages and places), to see if the 'merge' option appears. but from what I have read, the 'claim' option no longer exists. And as it is a 'community' page created by facebook themselves, using the businesses name, I am not sure if community pages can be claimed by anyone. I may need to go down the DMCA route.

Are you sure? they still have the instructions up there: http://www.facebook.com/help/location/claim

Your best bet might be finding a forum where Facebook employees hangout in stealth mode. A google group might be worth a go.

I don't get that option for the facebook generated page. But if I log in as another user and go to the facebook page I created, it does give me the option to claim that page. So I am guessing tthey have disabled that option for the automatic 'community' generated ones. I will try their forums too, I did read on their forums about some people on it who had the exact same problem a while ago and there was no solution, but will post it myself to their site, thanks for the tip.
