Topic # 106535 25-Jul-2012 23:21 Send private message

I just purchased a SSHD for my media centre and installed win7 64 bit.  I have installed EPG centre v3.2 and everything appears to run fine (exit code 0).  However, when I go into media centre guide there are lots of dots (i.e. full stops) in place of the program descriptions.

I did not have this when I was running a previous version of EPG centre pre- the new install.

I have tried the "import directly into media centre", and also "format for Big screen EPG", but neither setting fixes the issue.

I would of course prefer not to have to use Big screen epg...

Any help much appreciated.

You may want to try the new version of EPG Collector - Version 4

It may fix your issues.

Use EPG Collector, it'll extract the EPG directly from the MHEG5 TS.

I recently had the same issue when I had to rebuild my HTPC after a HDD failure. I was previously using EPG Collector in combination with Big Screen EPG but since my Big Screen license was about to expire I decided to try EPG Collector natively.

In my case upgrading to V4 didn't help. In the end I created a new configuration for EPG Collector and on the Output tab only selected Extract channel logos, Create data for channels with the same name and Import the data to WMC directly. Also do not populate the Channels tab.

I also did a full reset on my EPG (which loses all of your series information) but this may not be required.

The dots are caused by WMC itself loading EIT EPG data whenever you switch to a Freeview channel that is broadcasting it.

The Freeview broadcasters have set the program titles and descriptions to a lot of the programs in the EIT data to a dot and that is what you see in the WMC guide.

To stop WMC loading this data you need the following registry entries

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\GLID

DisableInband DWORD to 1.

If it doesn't exist (GLID branch or DisableInband) create it.

Note that this registry key is different from the one I previously quoted. I now believe that was incorrect and did not stop the in-band guide being collected by WMC. From my recent testing this key does stop it.

And this one

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\BackgroundScanner

Set PeriodicScanEnabled DWORD to 0. If it doesn't exist create the key. From my testing this key didn't have any effect but there is some discussion about it on the Net identifying problems so I would include it.

Also on the Output tab I would tick the last General option - Create data for channels with the same name etc etc. Without this you may have problems with series recording.

You should also upgrade to EPG Collector v4.0.

Thanks for all your help.

Updating to v 4 did the trick.
