I'm helping a friend of mine start a WISP from his place which overlooks a lot of a Kaipara from a rural block just north of Kaukapakapa.  So if your on a broadband waiting list or just cant get broadband then pm me.  We're located directly across the harbour from Shelly Beach wharf and up on a hill, so anyone within 30km line of sight should be able to connect to us.  We can see all the harbour side of the South head peninsula, Pouto point, and a little further up towards Dargaville.

Good to see someone who sees the problem and fixes it.
We are lucky enough to have a WISP in Wairarapa, but their prices are too high. Most people go to either ADSL or Satellite.

The only downside is our ADSL connection we're feeding it with it only 4mbits, ADSL1 aswell.  However further near the top of the hill we have line of sight to Waiatarua, and given we're getting fiber installed in Henderson its possibly an option to beam from heanderson upto waiatarua then back down again, and possibly to other locations.  Distance is about 40km from waiararua which is nearing the limit for standard 2.4gig wifi using high gain grid antennas, so considering getting a licence from RSM and using commercial microwave gear, possibly 14ghz.  Anyone know much about licensed microwave links?  Cost of license, cost of gear etc...?

I would talk to these guys:

https://www.araneo.net.nz/

And make sure you're not re-inventing the wheel.  According to this map:

https://www.araneo.net.nz/index.php/coverage/regional-north-island/

They may have coverage in the area you're looking at, so you might be able to come to some arrangement, whereby you take care of the last mile stuff, and use them as backhaul.

jjnz1 from Araneo popped up on a thread I started a while back on behalf of a friend in a remote area of Taranaki, so he might be worth a try.
