iYomu launches with $1 million prize competition

iYoumu thinks it needs to certify the winner

iYomu closes three months later.

This is a Kiwi example...

Did iYomu pay the million or not? Not mentioned in the articles.

Imho this promotion would be ethical only if the number of years to payout at the current subscription uptake was displayed next to the advertisement. If someone was promoting used cars this way they would not last long.

I can't find it now, but if I recall correctly iYomu settled with a lesser amount.

I actually met the folks behind the iYomu website before the launch and wasn't impressed. Facebook was just coming out as the winner in social networks and iYomu wanted to differentiate itself as the "social network for grown ups".

Pretty much like auction sites coming out now trying to get to Trade Me...

Anyone know how to get unsubscribed from these guys. I have followed their unsubscribe procedure, which just emails then 'unsubscribe' to their admin@... email address. But I have again received a newletter from them today to that same email address that I unsubscribed from.

Just visited their Accounts page to check for an "Subscribe me to emails" and noticed some new stuff - it appears they support a service for "auction management" called OMINS. Basically a sniping service.

There's also no easy way to change password?

And no email subscription management.

OMINS is a popular listing automation software for Trademe, used by a lot of the big sellers, you'll see in the comments of omins listings something like "Seller Comment: This auction was listed by OMINS - the auction management software professionals use"

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?searchString=Omins

My hobby - listing small amounts of interesting/useful hobby electronic components hardware and stuff on Trademe for cheap, all good geek stuff for the "maker" revolution ;-)

Tip for Trademe addicts: install an addon for your browser to get thumbs for all listings.
