I have done a search about this here but the threads are back in 2011 and 2010....really slow and issues with how adsl worked etc...with references to longed for fibre in the future... So....what speeds are you getting now..?? The last on I did here on Compass Wireless ( I think it has a 1mbps upload limit (getting arount 0.7-0.8mpps ) on my plan which I have checked btw and they cant increase it)...was a 6min 1080HD file of about 600+ megs from memory..in the evening it took about 3 hrs... Is fibre proving to be faster...?? I figure this is a more practicle "users perspective" rather than the tech side discussed here from time to time etc.. Rgds Laurie

Uploading hd video to youtube is torture and that's why i want fibre.. to save upload time, i usually encode to a much lower bitrate.. Yes the entry level fibre plan has a 10mbps upload which is around 10x faster than standard ADSL. The faster plan has a 50mbps upload which is around 50x faster. Even if you can't get fibre now, look at VDSL2 which gets you a 10mbps upload over the same copper wires you use now. Google "Chorus SAT"

Yes I was hoping someone here who is on a new fibre connection could tell us what upload speeds they were getting for YouTube uploads. Its a good real life example of what a fibre connection can do...Anyone?????...Laurie

In the absence of anyone on Fribre who wants to tell what improvement they get, I can tell you what I get on VDSL: On ADSL I was getting well under 1mbps but just did a couple of tests to uploading 105 MB file to youtube and it looks like I get around 4mbps (105 Meg is taking around 3:20 seconds) Not really sure how that would vary with time of day as I don't usually time it, heh.

People expecting 50Mbit upload rates to Youtube's US servers for single threaded/connection TCP/IP uploads are probably in for a quick lesson on the laws of physics. The latency (180-200ms) will be a large limiting factor.

I don't see this as a particularly big advantage of UFB. Unless you are a professional youtuber who needs to be putting hours of vids out there every day, then is it really that much of a major hassle to have slow uploads? Surely you just leave your upload going overnight. It's not like you desire to watch the vid, since you already have it to upload you can watch it whenever. The only downside is that your audience needs to wait a few hours longer to watch your vid, which in the vast majority of cases is no big deal.

We do alot of video uploads just to client servers which would be greatly improved by Fibre! It slowly making its way down our street --- just not fast enough!!! LOL.

Anyone know if the youtube uploads fit within the unmetered youtube that snap and the party are offering? Would be false advertising if not IMO. I have done nothing of merit to share with the internet in video form to test it with. Richard rich.ms

Assuming that they have unmetered all of Google's IP ranges, then uploads would likely be included in that. I'm unsure how it works exactly, they may have only unmetered their own Google content servers.

Ok, uploaded video to YouTube just for this thread! Wired connection, same file, same account, same computer, using software Netgear Genie (to measure the upload speed) ***With my Vodafone ADSL2+* Upload speed alternating between 0.84Mbps - 0.91Mbps *With my EOL Fibre 100/50* Upload speed alternating between 44.6Mbps - 44.8Mbps** So if you are uploading lots of YouTube videos, it is worth it.

I don't normally upload stuff to you tube, but I tried something right now off a good 43/10 VDSL connection and only got 2 to 3Mbit.
