Hi

Apologise if this question has been asked before!!

We are doing an extension to our 1970s home next year. This will involve building couple of new rooms at the front of the house which will face the main road. Distance from the road to these roms will be around 10-15m.

Currently I have already installed cat 6 to every room in my house with everything terminating at a patch panel in one of the old rooms at the back of the house (fair distance away from the new extension).

Our roadside cabinet was upgraded last year to handle faster internet but no UFB has been rolled to homes in our street.

Given that we are doing earthworks etc to build the extension I thought it would be a good time to think about what will be required when UFB eventually makes it to my street in Wellington.

Any advice?? What should I be thinking about?

Thanks heaps

You should ideally put the ducting in to somewhere near your patch panel. There are specs here:

If there won't be easy access down the side of your new extension (eg, concrete paths right up to the walls) you could look at either running an approved conduit under the new extension, or at least leaving access for a future conduit under there.

Our house is completely surrounded by concrete paths and the driveway. I got a concrete cutting guy in the other week to do a couple of jobs for me.

I also asked him to cut this hole in the front path, near to where the underground power and POTS cable enter the house. If we decide to get UFB at a later stage, I can simply dig down in this hole to run a conduit from the street.

If anyone in Palmerston North wants the name of a good concrete cutting service, PM me and I'll give you his name.

Do you have a couple of data cable running through the house to somewhere near where the existing phone lines come in? Presumably that would be at the front of the house, and you might already have chorus cables running to the street from there.
