I'm in Argyle Ave in Palmerston North, and the digging work and cable laying seems to have finished - the trench in our driveway got sealed up on Monday. I see they're moving on to Featherston St now. Anyone know whether it's likely to be active for connection before Christmas?

DarthKermit: I was having a look on the Chorus map recently and Wanganui (at this stage) has bugger all UFB installation coming up. That's because Wanganui is being built by UFF and so is not on the Chorus website. Check out http://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/what-were-up-to/coverage-areas. Looks like a big section of it will be done by june 2013.

Looks like a big section of it will be done by june 2013. Ah thanks for that. Tend to forget that Chorus aren't the only game in town! It's interesting to see that UFF have used those 1:50,000 topography maps to overlay their planned rollout. I see that Wanganui has roughly 25% that won't be covered by UFB.

Update: They've dug similar holes to this all along our side of the street today and have pushed the black tube shown through the existing phone wire duct. That means they haven't had to dig up our driveway or the road (unlike some of the houses down the street). We're the last house in the street so the new black tube stops at this hole.

Regarding the black ducting, I've noticed then using this on Featherston St also. Does anyone know why? Have they run out of the green stuff?

They are actualy the same product - the black one is for inserting into existing ducting and is refered to as the DI or Direct Instal version - the green one is actualy the black one with a hardened shell over the top to give it extra protection (in Chorus's case 'Green') and this is refered to as the DB or Direct Buried Version and is generaly installed as the name suggests directly in the ground. The DB version may also be installed through duct lines as it depends on the cost advatange and practicalities of adding a joint to transition from one type to the other - the cabinets are designed to have only the DB version connected to them. There is a third type refered to as IBD/In-Building Ducting - Which is white - and again as the name suggests is used inside buildings to distribute Air Blown Fibre & Copper

Ok they have opened up the 26way ribbonet ducting (26 x 5mm Tubes) and branched off 1 tube (the Green one) and that will go up into the pedistal ( this will later be extened up to your house by the service installers - the black thing is just the joint closure

I see, thanks. The guys are out there right now putting in 20 mm sweep bends from the pedistal to under the fence concrete nib in preparation for a future potential connection.
