I got very excited yesterday when I asked the guys what they were working on with all the digging in the streets around my house. UFB they told me. Great I thought, but when I looked at the Chorus rollout map I'm Just outside the coverage area. I'm dreaming if I think Chorus would go a little further down the street for me. Right? Knowing the demographic of the area I'm probably one of few people who would be chomping at the bit to get connected. Chorus, if you're reading this. The guys who do the trenching have no input, but you ought to ask them for the name of the supervisor and contact him as he DOES have some discretion. I am speaking from first-hand experience. From your map it looks like the initial rollout is for the benefit of schools and medical centers.

I know you might feel that you are being left out but dont forget we are only in the middle of year 2 of the planned 10 year project. The area where UFB is being deployed in this project has been/is being set ruffly as follows 1st level - set by Crown Fibre Holdings (CFH) - the 33 Canditate Areas (Citys and large towns covering 75% of NZs population) 2nd level - Segment Area - Set by the the Retail Service Providers (RSP) (Chorus only being 1 of 4 but does have the largest %) - Breaking down the Canditate Areas into Segments approx 2,500 premises 3rd level - Unit Area - set by Statistics NZ and prioritises areas within the Segments - based priorities set by CFH ie Education facilities, Medical Facilites, Large Business Etc and demographics based on poor existing BB Service and expected demarned. 4th level - Cabinet Area - set by engineering design to cover approx 220 premises within a Segment These Cabinet Areas are then being built based on Unit Area priority and sorry to say that priorities aren't easerly adjusted to suit individual connections - :-) So sometimes you will find a Cabinet Area has/is being built on one set of streets then a few streets appear to being missed out and another Cabinet Area is built. The missed Areas will be filled in as set by the priorities over the coming years.

Yeah I totally appreciate that a line has to be drawn somewhere. It's just so tantalisingly close! Is there any chance the coverage map isn't quite accurate and that my address could be covered? Thanks very much for the info. Visit My Blog!

The Chorus press release for my town says that eight schools will be covered by the end of June, but the maps for this area don't show coverage for any schools here until year 3.

The Map of your location appears to show Cabinet Areas for yr2 (which are mostly set now give or take a few premises either way to match up with usage changes and technical feed limits) - btw did you click on yr 3 on the Layers to see if your street comes up?

Yes, still not covered in year 3. It's not that I think I'm entitled. I did flick an email to Chorus with a bit of a plea though. I mean if not now while the diggers are here then it won't be for quite a while. But that's life Visit My Blog!

Especially when it's literally just across the street; there are probably some driveways longer than that!

It could be worse... Map shown with Y1, Y2 and Y3 enabled. Blue shading is Y2 scheduled for May 2013. At least we have access to VDSL.

I'm in the same boat, but worse. There is UFB being installed on all four sides of me, I'm in a little no ufb island.

To meet Chorus's general commitment to provision networks to most schools that will allow them to connect to UFB withing the first 2yrs (June is the end of yr2), when a school isnt to be within a prioritised cabinet area then they are being fibred up conventionaly. When and if they take up UFB they are connected to the GPON via a spitter installed on the Exchange Fibre Frame.

I am not sure exactly in meters how close you are, but are you friendly with your neighbours? A point to point wireless from their roof to yours could get you over the line.

I know how you feel man, check out the coverage for my area. I'm just out of reach for VDSL and For the first 3 years of Fibre. I got in contact with Chorus and they said there is nothing they can do. Though I have a feeling Vector may be joining with their Auckland based network soon. I guess it's all just a waiting game :( My Coverage: - Aidan

Situations like these you need to offer to pay for someones internet connection who is inside the ufb or vsdl area then grab a pair of ubiquity m5's or something to link up to your place.
