Hi,

For those who have read my other topic trying to decide on which fibre option to choose, I have had a complication and I thought it was more appropriate to post separately. I am getting very conflicting information as to what is or isn't available at my new address. It seems the different ISPs have the same info but different answers.

The house is the first in a new subdivision and the council haven't yet finalised the street number. This makes things complicated. The house itself to roadside is cabled for fibre and the last pre-existing house on my side of the street can definitely get fibre. No one seems to know for sure about what's the actual status of my house.

My question is: can Chorus give me a definitive answer from the Lot and DP numbers? If yes, who at chorus should I talk to?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Assuming you are in a Chorus fibre build area;

1. The developer of the subdivision should be able to tell you whether the Lot is reticulated for fibre or not.
2. Call your ISP and ask them to do a MANUAL pre qualification for your address.
They will submit a request that will get picked up by the Chorus provisioning team and provide the right answer.

As an end user you don't have any relationship with Chorus so can't contact them directly. Your request simply needs to be put to an ISP who will lodge a manual prequalification with Chorus. There is nothing complex at all about your situation.

I may be able to help or one of the other telecom folks. The issue is right now Telecom doesn't have a production voice over fibre solution so we wouldn't be able to offer service. But we could do the prequal if needed.

Did that.  They seemed to get confused with the manual confirmation on only a Lot and DP number.  Thanks to ChorusVan who is following up with a contact to see if he can find more.  I also contacted the subdivision team at Chorus, but have had no response as yet.

Hi Alexis,

When you place an order with Snap, provide them with the full physical address for install, i.e. street number and street name along with the Lot and DP details, Chorus will then verify the address with the local council using the lot/dp details.

Your subdivision development was originally reticulated with copper when it was built several years ago. 

Since then the UFB programme has rolled through your part of Masterton and over-built with fibre.  The fibre cabinet serving your street has been commissioned so you are ready to go.

You can definitely have a Chorus fibre service.

Your problem will be the fact that you do not have a "proper" address which makes ordering a service from an ISP rather challenging.

Once you have decided which service provider you want to use you need to advise them that you live in a new subdivision that is fibre enabled and that you don't have an address yet.  Get them to order a fibre service from Chorus and push it to the provisioing team with the Lot & DP number and the "proposed" address details that you have.  Our records team will create a pseudo address record that will enable the order to go through.  If this becomes a problem, ask the ISP to talk to their Chorus Service Delivery Manager who can walk them through this process.

Since I'm pretty sure you mentioned in the other thread you created that copper isn't at your address then as mentioned above Telecom isn't an option for you (yet).

I'm not sure the subdivision having no copper, I just know there is fibre to roadside.  However, due to a bad experience in the past with TCNZ, I have chosen Snap. 

The interesting things is, even there provisioning team didn't want to believe ChorusVan's advice and told me I'd likely have to wait for paperwork and street address to get sorted.  I told them given what I now know, if that was their position, I would go elsewhere.  I told them to talk to their Chorus Service Delivery Manager as this had happened before and can be sorted.  It will be interesting what transpires.

I got some confusing, frustrating and sad news from SNAP this morning.  According to their conversations with the Chorus Fibre Provisioning team, the cabinet servicing my property is not built yet, with an undetermined build date. I am still hopeful that this is more a case of confusion than anything else, but hope is somewhat fading.

I'll update soon.
