ahmad: kobiak: Do I supposed to get any confirmation email from online free SIM sign up? I did it yesterday, first thing in the morning after I saw this topic. Got message on screen, that skinny would be in touch shortly, but was not. They posted about some problems with the online signup (and subsequently took it down from the site) so email or call them to be sure. sorted on the phone. woo-hoo!

I'm 42 and it seems the same to me - I can't imagine how terrible it sounds to a 19 year old! Particularly when it's that old behemoth Telecom (i.e. the grumpy old phone in the Telstraclear ads) trying to be all cool. It all seems a bit confused. Surely 19 year olds are the ones who love smartphones and use lots of data, therefore this isn't likely to be for them. If Skinny is aimed at people who have very low usage, perhaps a phone in their glovebox for emergencies, isn't that an older age group, but the Skinny brand clearly isn't aimed at them. Also, doesn't the word Skinny have fairly negative connotations these days? Aside from the whole skinny model / eating disorder side of things, it seems to emphasise what you don't get - i.e. this is a reduced version of our normal product.

I believe that too, but that being the case, why is their phone lineup the type that need to yum up a lot of data? They should have cheaper end handsets and flip phones/sliders, not 4 of their 7 phones being smartphones?

I agree with you there, most teenagers end up with cheap throwaways because they break or loose their phones too often to invest in a decent phone.

Most people don't even realise they have their so called smartphone. Anything with iOS, android and Symbian higher than S40 are smartphones, which adds up more than half a market. Smartphone is more the way people use their handset rather than just owning one. And also a lot of people just dont know that their phone is capable of doing certain things, like my mother, who always had a decent phone :)

I suspect there's not many phones available these days that don't do this, and allow people to download music etc, even if they don't run iOS, Android, Windows and so on.

Most of my friends have smartphones and im 17. I got a Sagem My400v as my first real phone back in 05 or 06 that cost me $200, for $200 now you can get a decent low end smartphone like the LG P500. I believe smartphone uptake is as high as we think BUT mobile data usage is lower. richms: Do they limit you to one $4 bindle per week? You can buy as many data Add-ons in a week as you like, but only one will renew automatically. When purchased Add-ons run to your renewal date and so the cost is pro-rated i.e. if you buy mid way through your weekly plan it would cost $2 for 60MB

You can get to it on the Skinny Mobile Menu (our USSD menu) by calling 8888#. Another useful feature in the same menu is Credit transfer - you can transfer credit from one phone to another.
