Probably people already know, but here is shorter USSD to check balances 88821# - voice 88822# - txt 88823# - data From what I've read USSD on iPhones should work (when dialed).. but its not possible to write a native app to dial the numbers or make links to numbers with in it (done for security) so if you had an iPad it would not be possible (via USSD) to use USSD at all as it has no keypad to dial (but if jailbroken can install Query USSD) via Cydia Thanks Craig

Yes you can make phone calls/txts etc if you jailbreak the iPad and install the correct applications via Cydia As far as I know (2Dgrees Does it. You can actually send TXTs via the iPad without jail breaking (ike 2Degrees does with installing a menu on the SIM Card) but it won't receive TXTs.

My SIM actually just arrived. Popped it into iPhone and it seems to be working. Can call out, but 3G logo hasn't appeared so mobile data doesn't work. Can't edit APN settings (proven wrong ><) and the carrier label up top says "Telecom NZ" rather than "Skinny" which is kind of odd. Sam, Auckland Skype: tardtasticx

tardtasticx: My SIM actually just arrived. Popped it into iPhone and it seems to be working. Can call out, but 3G logo hasn't appeared so mobile data doesn't work. Can't edit APN settings (proven wrong > I got XT's APN and MMS automatically when inserted SIM into my Android device. Added SKINNY's APN manually and 3G start working.

AFAIK if you have no "3G" symbol at the top of the iPhone you won't have ANY XT reception for voice or data. Hence my question. tardtasteic just verified (without entering any profile) on the iPhone that Data does work on Skinny with Telecom's APN Settings (as thats what the iPhone would have used when he put the SIM in). This wapaccess.co.nz APN = internet.telecom.co.nz APN (A little like Vodafone translate anything incorrect to work) Maybe someone can change their APN to internet.telecom.co.nz on Skinny and see if it works. Thank :-)

freitasm: heavenlywild: kobiak: a bit disappointed, because of 10mb of DATA on weekly combos :( expected at least 30-50mb :( with all addons wont be much cheaper then existing deals :( 10mb is just embarrassing in 2012. What can you really do on a smartphone with 10MB? Not much, unless you plan to turn everything off. This is not for smartphone users. It's for those who put price at front - students, people with a mobile handset in the glovebox. If you want smartphone stuff you go to Telecom XT or Vodafone. I couldn't disagree more. As a VF user, I will just stick with VF. If you sign up for 12 months on VF on their smart 1 plan you get 100 minutes, 2500 texts, and 250 mb data a month (you do get 6 months with 1 GB data but time limited offers shouldn't count) and one NZ best mate for $40. I can tell you that a lot of smartphone users on VF are currently stuck with the conundrum of either sticking with the old smart plans (3 GBs of data a month for life of those plans) but tolerating the pitifully low included minutes or moving to the new smart plans and getting more minutes but pitiful data. I can say that I know a lot of people who will find that they have enough minutes and texts by paying $8 a week for the pack and the data add-on. Whilst 480 mb of data isn't a lot, it's a lot better than 250. IMO, it's time for VF (sticking with VF only for now) to really increase the data allowance a bit (1 GB permanently would be a good start) on the smart plans to incentivise people to go on post pay.

I think it makes it easier to understand for most folk even if it's not technically correct

I think it makes it easier to understand for most folk even if it's not technically correct Yeh, so if you go into settings and disable mobile internet, the 3G or E or whatever logo up the top goes away but you still have reception. Its really dumb but idk. They could make it change colours. Blue for standby, green for activly using data or something? Pshhh don't know why I'm trying, Apple wont listen haha.. I would expect that for any SIM if you are on the "home network" it would show the home networks name but when you are roaming that it would show the "foreign network"s name. e.g. when on a 2degrees cell tower with a 2degrees SIM you would see 2degrees and when roaming on Vodafone you would see vodafone. when on telecom/vodafone (as the home network) you would see telecom/vodafone when on skinny/etc. you would see skinny not telecom
