Due to reception issues my wife needs to move to Telecom or Skinny and I was wondering what peoples experience with Skinny so far has been. I don't want her getting even more frustrated than she already is due to poor reception.

How reliable are things?

How long did your number swap take?

Any major issues recently?

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat New Zealand as a Solution Architect for all things Linux, Virtual and of course Cloud. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Great experience so far.

Porting by phone took 2 hours. Texting did not work at that stage but calls were, so I emailed Skinny about it, and it was fixed by 1 hour later.

I live in the centre of Timaru, I was on 2 Degrees which uses Vodafone's towers, so pretty much poor coverage wherever I go apart from near coast. Just for examples of 3 places I frequently spend my time:

At home - Vodafone = no 3G, 1-2 bars 2G; Skinny 4/4 full bars 3G
At Scenic Reserve - Vodafone = no coverage; Skinny 3 from 4 bars 3G
At South End - Vodafone = 1 bar 3G; Skinny 4/4 full bars 3G.

I have had no issues and would recommend Skinny to anyone - have already convinced a friend to sign up!

I have made many calls, texts and used data absolutely no issue, top up by USSD code is easy, and I get confirmation text. I get a text the day before weekly renewal to remind me to top up if required. If I miss a call, I get a text to say I missed a call from 02....

I have a skinny mobile and so far am happy. I did have a problem sending texts to my wife but after advising Skinny CSR's this was fixed promptly. Apparently they are soon launching new data plans and will soon be launching a new website.
