The ADSL connection on my Linksys WAG200G keeps dropping out every minute or so. I have checked the status of the modem and the DSL status keeps going through connecting, negotiating and connected.

Our house has a master splitter installed at the telecom demarcation so I don’t use filters on the phone outlets.

My service provider is Fyx. I haven’t seen anyone else report any issues with Fyx so I think the problem is on my side. I haven’t contacted Fyx as their customer service centre is not open on weekends.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem. Should I contact Telecom regarding this.

There could be any number of reasons for this. I suggest posting some modem stats here but also contact your ISP. If you are a Fyx customer you need to check with them not Telecom.

Have you tried another modern? This is part of basic fault checking

@johnr, unfortunately I don't have spare modem at the moment.

Will contact Fyx tomorrow. I thought if there is a problem with the line I may have to contact Chorus. I suppose Fyx will contact them on my behalf.

You mentioned Telecom above not Chorus

You are not a Chorus customer and your ISP will want you to try another modem first

STI:

That looks suspiciously the firmware bug where some older chipset modems had problems connecting to newer Chorus line cards in the cabinet/exchange. That line rate is way too low for the attenuation.

Actually I think the WAG200G did suffer from compatibility issues with the IKANOS line cards.

Make sure it's running the latest firmware, I seem to recall that helped:

If that doesn't work and troubleshooting with Fyx doesn't turn up anything at their end... time for a new modem.
