Everyone sells Haier... they now own a big chunk of Fisher & Paykel.
Don't expect a quiet machine / clean dishes / great longevity.
Cheap though... and ideal for landlords.

Its a bit like Indesit. Sounds very cool, but is the budget offering. Probably ok value, but if you want one long term, I prefer to pay more and get a lot more quality, reliabilty, lifetime. But a bunch of top notch bigger ticket items does add up.

Sometimes too cheap can be false economy. Also look at things like reliability and power ratings. eg an economy dishwasher may not have as much CGA protection as a premium one.

PS. I use eco dishwashing powder in mine. Partly becuase the enviro spetic tank we have requires it. But it cleans just as well as the mainstream ones.

Agree 100% on most things in life. Got two DIY jobs, buy a cheap $30 planer, but appliances, you get what you pay for. Earlier repairs, problems, not a great washer, dryer, picture, etc, all those things over the years have an opportunity cost, making a 60% more expensive purchase on day one, a good buy.

I've gone through about 5 different cheap clothes dryers until I've found a Bosch at a great price (think it was $700 for a 7kg model, RRP ~$1400). It was the best investment ever, we use it at least once a day. Cheap appliances only work out if you use them occasionally. I'm a product design engineer - products are designed for a target duty cycle and usually reflected in the price, they are not designed for a calendar life.

I am sure that Haier is F+P based, and Chinese made, not made here, I may be wrong.

Consumer says

Haier HDW300SS $870 odd
Good points
Good at washing. Very good water and energy efficiency. Delayed start. Height-adjustable top basket. Some plate-racks fold down.
Bad Points
Only OK drying performance. No time-remaining display. No child lock. No auto-sensing.

Simpson EZISet 52C850WK $890 odd - "worth considering"
Good points
Good washing performance. Very good drying performance. Good water efficiency. Height-adjustable top basket. Reasonably priced.
Bad Points
Only OK energy efficiency. No delayed start. Plate racks don?t fold down. No time-remaining display. Relatively noisy. No child lock.

The cheapest full size dishwasher they recommend starts around $1400. Pay the $3 membership for a week if you want the full report. I can say, Bosch do great dish washers. There's another thread on dishwashers around here somewhere.

I'm all for convergence, but how practical would it be to have this Dishwasher-TV?

Would look ugly on the wall of the lounge too.

;-)

Sure, but it would easier to get the kids into the kitchen...

Not sure I'd even put F&P on the list of good stuff anymore, average at best.

Spent a fortune on dishwashers over the past 10years. The house we bought had a F&P Twin drawer in it. Went ok for the first few years then it regularly broke down, spent a small fortune on it, approx $200 a year every year for this and that. After that died, we went to top of the range single unit ELBA  (f&P), this broke down once under warranty and now it is approx 6months outside its warranty, it is beyond economincal repair.

I think this is the last F&P product that i will ever buy.

Thinking of getting a Bosch dishwasher now.  Any feedback welcome.  Thanks,  Richard.

I have a Bosch, it's only 6 months old but it's great. Very quiet, washes very well, and just feel like quality. The fast cycle time is 90 minutes (which works fine), the standard cycle time is closer to 3 hours. We got the one with the separate cutlery drawer up the top, not a basket, it's very effective and leaves plenty of space in the racks. Cost $2K I think.

90 mins!

my F&P cycle eco is 20 mins! everything is sparkling clean - i never rinse any dishes only remove the physical residues like leaves and rice all sauces splattered on. need basic (not the diamond) powerball though
