If you look at the way it appears to be made, it seems that the the arm moves in relation to whatever it fits on to perhaps to indicate the position it is on the item it's sliding along?
Edit: That is, the item it fits on varies in size along it's length
Well my tool-expert and knower-of-all-things has failed me, offering only that it may be a "wigwam for a gooses bridle".
"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your". "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There". You probably mean "lose" not "loose". There's no such word as "Alot".
