Thanks for being honest. I'm not in any hurry. no ISPs in NZ have a great plan atm which will make me break the contract and make the move, if i do it will have to be some mean deal!

ScottHoogerbrug:
everybodylovesfebs: Telecom does home line plus 500GB for $120. Which is about $4/GB including home line. From what I heard lately since most Telecom customers are older people there isn't a lot of traffic shaping/prioritisation going on for them if you are planning on downloading a bit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm in the hunt for a reliable ISP who doesn't reduce my speeds because I watch a lot of HDTV and usenet stuff. No p2p. Just usenet.

[u]We don't shape anything, and have a brand new network - speeds are good[u].

But it says on terms and conditions:

"

c.If in our reasonable opinion we consider your usage to fall outside of normal residential patterns, to be unfair, unreasonable and/or Excessive Usage we may contact you and advise that your use is in breach of our Fair Use Policy and request that you change your use of the Service to bring it within our Fair Use Policy or immediately disconnect or restrict your Services.

"

It is not shaping but restricting speeds based on usage is fairly close though?

At this stage I have no reason to jump ship to flip for many reasons I wish not to discuss:
Here is my 2c:

How much Would I pay (if I was a customer): $70 - 80

Why? Considering Flip is prepay this instantly attracts people on a budget or people unable to singup with any other ISP that works on a credit basis.... So would there be a uptake of people purchasing the 100gb data blocks? At this stage 50gb would be significant enough for the average user on a budget if a user wanted to download more I would not recommend flip.

It's more aimed at people that are looking to abuse our service, very unlikely anyone here is going to fall into this category.

Any news on when we might see larger data blocks? I am looking at joining Flip in January, but the only obstacle is the small data blocks compared to other ISPs.

Sorry about the delayed response.

We're looking at either a bigger block or going with an unlimited/unmetered idea.

Will keep you posted.

Any news on a larger data pack?

I need to signup with an ISP in the next 2 weeks, so would be good to know whether Flip will be doing something.

Right now I can get 150gb with Telecom and free local calling for $99 (no contract), and if I had to get the same amount of data from Flip it would be around $150.

We've something planned in early Feb to that effect.

Sorry I can't deliver anything sooner.

Just wondering, while Telecom gives you 150GB, do you use it all each month?

I would be for the first month ... after the Steam Holiday sales :-)

For an average month, I would probably use in the region of 60gb - 80gb actually.

I was with Orcon, glad to gotten rid of them - so now I need to sign up with someone else before I return from my overseas holiday!

Would you go for something around $80 for unmetered/no cap?

File sharing would be limited at all times to around 128k.

Yes I would be interested, depending on the definition of file sharing and what sites / services would fall under that?

Steam? Dropbox?

Torrents? Rapidshare and other cloud storage sites?

Steam and dropbox would be fine I'd say (we're still figuring it out)

Torrents and sites like Rapidshare would definitely fall into the definition of file sharing.

When do you think you'll have it figured out by?

I'd be really interested in getting unlimited for $80.
