What is average speed of Flip compared to other providers i am considering switching to Flip. Thanks Rod

Flip themselves are far less likely to be better or worse than any other provider than you are to have dodgy wiring or be in a location which has saturated backhaul and so on. speedtest.net says 8Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up. Downstream speed was reportedly faster with Orcon, but it's not noticeable at all.

I have been very impressed with Flip so far, my upstream and downstream speeds are higher than I was getting with Orcon, and everything loads extremely quickly. I would often have DNS issues resolving sites with Orcon, but no problems with Flip so far.

I'm using flip for 1.5 months now, so far i'm pleased with them, everyday i watch streaming tvs and youtube and only experience minor lags. for the speedtest I got around 8Mbps download and 800 Kbps upload, it's enough for me.

Since you didn't use the correct DNS your testing can't really be considered accurate. Using Google DNS as your primary DNS server in NZ is a very bad idea unless you're fully aware of the implications of doing so, and your high latency to google is a perfect example of the implications. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? With CDN's now forming the basis of global content delivery for many major sites and content providers using a 3rd party DNS can easily have a major impact on your internet experience. The most common impact of 3rd party DNS speed reductions as content may be served (for example) from the US rather than locally in NZ or Sydney which is now a major CDN hub. Your traceroute to Google shows exactly this - Google will be coming from your ISP's cache if they have a Google box, or Sydney if they don't. Your ping to google has to go all the way to the US because of your DNS settings as the DNS you're using isn't aware of your geographic location to redirect the CDN traffic to the closest CDN location. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? So that basically confirms that speedtests are pointless for comparing speeds due to peering if you select one speedtest location and it actually comes from somewhere else entirely.

Tried it made no difference to speed. As long as your ISP is not doing its own caching and routing the DNS query to a different location than what google DNS will give you then it will make no difference in actual speed. For example I can't use iSKY unless I use my ISP DNS as the CDN comes back with the wrong IP and it won't play.
