Topic # 140887 23-Feb-2014 17:16 Send private message

Just a quick question for the unlimited data pack plan, will the speed be capped/slowed for downloads from an ftp server? What about using p2p via a SOCKS5 proxy?

Thanks!

To protect Flip network performance, when using the No Cap Data Pack the below list will be limited at all times.

Please note, this list will change at Flip's sole discretion.

While we'll try to keep this up to date, bottom line is that this pack is designed for streaming, browsing, gaming and internet calling - stay within that and you'll be always at full speed.

I saw that sticky thread but could not reply on it. Deluge isn't on that list, same with a SOCKS5 proxy. Downloading files from an ftp isn't either.

Just got switched over to flip from bigpipe and before Orcon. The speed increase has been amazing! I was getting 900-1100 kB/s and now I get a constant 1900-2100 kB/S.

Thanks for the service hope it keeps this way!

Probably to do with moving from chorus UBA to callplus ucll. (Although that seems unusually large difference - what is your sync rate now/before? )
Seems risky though as that list could change anytime. How much stuff are you actually downloading?

Also, Why did you move with a month still to go on the bigpipe free trial?

Well I see no risk in moving, I was off contract from Orcon on ADSL and they botched back my VDSL upgrade so I moved back to ADSL off contract. Then joined bigpipe but the GF was not happy with no phoneline and I could not be bothered investing more into VOIP etc so I decided to bite the bullet and get flip.

I download using FTP/HTTP so I don't think any of those protocols will be throttled anytime soon..?

Don't know about the speed increase, originally orcon ADSL was at 14-15 mbps and then VDSL speed decreased to 12 mbps and then bigpipe ADSL was about 8-9 mbps. Flip is the fastest its ever been at this apartment.
