low power usage should be on the list as well. It is certainly something I look for in a device that will be on all the time.

But if you are building so many features into a device, it bumps the power up. I would like to see a conscious effort for low power consumption at every stage.

The little things make the biggest difference.

Remember NOT ALL FEATURES are making into the device.

You folks decide which features will make to a shortlist that will then be voted on by yourself.

So keep pushing the [+1] buttons in the features YOU WANT to be considered.

Full local management of DHCP and DNS allowing host names to be pre-mapped, and multiple host names assigned to a single IP Address.

Right guys, your ideas are getting really complicated...

How about something simple?

Modem/Router restarts less than 10 seconds. Easy

Novel idea of having a case design which is reversible.
In some situations a device is facing the wrong way because it stuck in a server rack and all the cables are coming out the back and all the light/display are at the front. Somehow the indicators/display could swivel easily to back or to the front. Whatever situation fits your needs.

Even if the device is wall mounted you can still see the indicators/display because it can swivel.

Suggestions for the old phones:
  • POTS support so once you've been switched over to UFB you can plug the device into any port in your house, livening up your existing old wiring (with the copper to the street now disconnected). That way your old phones continue to work as before
  • Full CallerID support over said POTS output so that existing phones with address books continue to work as before.  Ditto over DECT
  • Flashing indicator when you've got Voicemail

Multiple firmware boot option so you can experiment between different open wrt vendors and easily rollback to a known working state. Basically make it impossible to brick your device.

I'd like to see a test page built into the modem software.

The test page would have configureable speedtests and ping stats to specified locations at specified times - national and international - set it for once a day or once an hour maybe even every 10 minutes then be able to produce a graph of results.

Doing the speedtest at the modem cuts out any potential issues people introduce through poor wifi or incorrect network settings or firewall issues etc.

The graphs would be great for pinpointing potential problems.

Stability, auto-recovery, and diagnostics (the latter possibly accessible to remote helpdesk if it's at least partially working) are the #1 thing in my book.  It's amazing (and disappointing) how often "just reboot it" actually does solve a connection issue, even when the device is supposed to auto-reconnect.

Any chance you can add the +1 buttons to this list as well?
