Dairusire: I find it interesting that your finding it hard to get public IP's? I mean we just ordered another 1000 of them for my work? Those are also static IP's

Where did you get them from?

and

How much do you want for them?

My employer is selling some at the mo.. I believe the asking price is 250k per /22, of which I think they have 3 for sale.

Can't you just take a block off Telecom? They've got FAR more than they'll ever need.

APNIC

and I wouldn't have any clue on prices. But at the rate we are going through them regardless, we are going to need them. We've already used over 1.2k static IP addresses in the last 3 months alone

Been with bigpipe for a little over a fortnight now I think.

It seems slow.

I am in Hamilton, on ADSL

Ive done some tests on speedtest.net.

Previously on orcon I was seeing up to about 15Mbps on speedtest.net to Auckland servers.

Day 1 on bigpipe that dropped to about 9Mbps, and now im struggling to get 5Mbps.

Sounds like you're needing a master filter. I'm getting some impressive speeds over VDSL which are actually faster than my previous Telecom VDSL connection...

Try a speedtest to Telstra in Brisbane.

Hahahahahaha, Good luck. Thats about $244 per IP and is over 10x the highest market price (which are for bigger continuous blocks like /19's)

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Hi,

That seems unusual, as there is really no reason for speedtests to auckland to vary by anything like that much, on any ISP really.

Assuming you haven't changed anything else apart from moving ISP (like switching your modem, using a different jackpoint, moving house etc) and those tests are all done via ethernet and not over wifi (since Wifi will cause huge swings in speedtest results), then it's probably worth submitting a ticket to our support desk and we can have a look at your line.

ETA: I see you were on Orcon, so would have been using the genius modem presumably before, but since Orcon ask for it back I assume you aren't using it with us.   What modem are you using with Bigpipe?

Using Linksys X3500 http://support.linksys.com/en-mea/support/gateways/X3500

Connected via ethernet.

Previously the genius modem was via wireless.

Ive played with the QoS settings on the X3500 since last post, and im back up to 9Mb, thinking the other part of the drop might be the new phone port, as I believe it's on an extension, so will try moving things and report back.

that would almost certainly be the cause.  You definitely want to avoid using line extensions if you can, they are terrible for causing issues like this.

Coffeebaron will do you a good deal on a master filter, that should get you back up to where you were, maybe even higher!

Moved the modem back to where it was.

Its now connected as close to the incoming line as I can get, and we're still at 9Mb.

Will keep an eye on things and see what happens
