If I travel from Auckland to Hong Kong on a Cathay Pacific ticketed flight on a Air NZ jet can I access the Koru Club with my membership?

I've looked at the KC T&C's and it's not quite clear. If you're on a Air NZ tickets flight on Cathay Pacific jet you can. I wonder if it works vice versa?

My understanding is no, you wouldn't normally be admitted into the lounge if travelling on a CX ticketed flight, even if it is on NZ metal.

Assuming you're flying economy the answer should be no, Koru only gives you lounge access when flying on NZ metal.

CX and NZ run the whole sector as a codeshare agreement so if you were flying on CX metal with a NZ ticket you'd be eligible for NZ lounge access.

It's worth asking at the lounge though.

It states it here.

http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/co-operation-partners-cathay-pacific

If you travel on Cathay Pacific flight numbers (i.e. your ticket shows a Cathay Pacific flight number) between Auckland and Hong Kong you will earn Airpoints Dollars based on the earning rates in the Partner flights section of the Airpoints Dollars earning rates look up table^ and Cathay Pacific's eligible booking classes, and you will not receive any Status Points or Elite, Gold or Koru benefits. This applies to flight numbers CX107, CX108, CX197, CX198, CX7401, CX7402."

The annoying thing is the exactly same itinerary is 15% cheaper with CX than with Air NZ.

The Koru Club and the Air NZ International lounges are separate entities. Being a Koru Club member does not necessarily give you access to the Air NZ International lounges, such as the one at AKL past security in the international terminal. But you can get access to all Air NZ International lounges if you fly Star Alliance and are a Gold or Gold Elite frequent flyer. As an added bonus, you can even do this flying economy.

Cathay Pacific is One World, not Star Alliance, so you are completely out of luck.

David.

Hardly surprising.

It's quite often cheaper to book trans tasman flights on Virgin AU that will be on NZ metal for less than you'll pay on Air NZ.

Try a travel agent . They have access to prices/specials etc that the "normal" public don't have access to.
