grp: thanks for the reply.

Im not really interested in voice guided nav, i just want it to show me where to turn. I thought that option was free, but according to my fone it cannot be accessed.

Sorry mate not free with nokia maps.

What you want then is google maps for nokia devices. Doesnt have voice guidance, but has turn by turn on screen directions for free.

yep, thanks.

However that leads to my second issue.

When i attempt to install the app from http://m.google.com/maps the phone will download the app, but instead of installing, the phone pops up a warning message "certificate may not be active, may have expired or time settings on phone may not be correct" (pretty much word for word).

I dont know how to get past this. I have manually set time and date, same error, automatically set time and date, again same error.

Any ideas guys?

Cheers

open the menu,
settings
application manager
installation settings

there you will see 3 things.

change software installation to "all"
change online security check to "off"
leave web address set to "none"

hope that helps

When all else fails, reset.

Of course it may be seen as an extreme measure and a hassle, but maybe if ya been playing around with the settings, installing and removing apps, hacking away since ya got it, ya may have gone and done something without realizing and now ya device is just a mess?

It may not be the answer, nor will it teach you what you did or still are doing wrong, but it will likely, hopefully, fix your problem.

coffeebaron: Any word on VoIP client for these phones?

Skype is available for the N97.

To what I have read, my understanding is that it has been hardcoded with some limitations though, but as I don't use or get into VoIP, I can't tell ya much more.

I have not seached, but I am sure there would be a few others available too.

The only ones i can find are:
Fring
Gismo

Gismo is not bad in terms of lag/delay. Too hard to dial numbers thou. Connection not as reliable as my old Voip intergrated N82.
Fring is crap. Lag is too much due to connection routing through frings overseas servers before hitting our local sip provider.

Both are not worth using here in NZ just for Voip.

I cant find the skype app. is it in Ovi store? Is it integrated into the N97 phone book yet?

So, finally found the problem...

May seem silly, but the Automatic Time and Date function had set the date to September something 2009 so it was a month ahead of itself... not sure how it can do that.

However, I managed to install Gmaps and it works flawlessly, but I still get the error "Certificate Error, contact application supplier" when I try to install the Key Lock Clock from your link in post 1 Bartender.

You'll need to get the Key Lock Symbian Signed.

Instructions are...

Download the attachment KeyLockClock.

Goto the site https://www.symbiansigned.com/app/page/public/openSignedOnline.do
Down the bottom of the page there is fill in boxes for IMEI, Email Address.

Fill in the details

In the application box, browse to where you have saved the KeyLockClock file.

Accept Legal Agreement and press Send

Symbian Signed will send a confirmation email to you to ensure you have sent that file, goto the email you entered into the site and accept that confirmation

Symbian Signed will then sign the application and send you another link to the signed application

Download the application

Install as normal.

To be completely honest I haven't heard or seen anything. There may well be some substance in the rumour, but as I said, I know nothing :)

Where have you seen this rumour?
