For those who have not noticed, there is an update available in SW update....it does nothing we can see but the speculation is that it is required before installing a large new firmware update due to be released shortly...v20...which includes many new features including systemwide kinetic scrolling and skpe to name a few.

Also...disapointingly...we no longer own the flagship...the Nokia N900 has been officially announced.

Cool I have done the Software Update. I cannot wait for the major firmware upgrade!

I still would prefer the N97 over the N900 just for the keyboard. I cannot stand typing without a physical keyboard.

heavenly_wild: I still would prefer the N97 over the N900 just for the keyboard. I cannot stand typing without a physical keyboard.

The N900 does have a physical keyboard.

It is not the same design as the N97, it does not have the D pad...it is simular to the 'yet to be released' N97 Mini keyboard layout, but with much larger keys.

If ya don't mind giving Maemo/Linux a try, then the N900 has everything over the N97...there is no comparison...I feel robbed of my 'flagship' phone

jjnz1:And you have reliable sources that say skype and scrolling are comming?

Would I put money on it?...no.
But I keep reading the same rumors over and over on very reliable sites and via Tweets of very reliable bloggers...

My favorite Symbian sites that are very reliable and generally ahead of the bumch, would be:
-Symbian-Guru - follow on Twitter
-The Nokia Blog - follow Mark on Twitter
-Mobile-Review - this site always has the inside scoop
-Nokiausers - excellent forum, with one dedicated to the N97....'Micky' is well worth following on Twitter

Plus I use Twitter alot to find the latest news and rumors...have many N97 searches saved on my Gravity app for quick and regular updates.

Ahhh ok, it is just strange that I have not seen any photos of its keyboard. My bad.

Anyway, I am still very happy with my N97 and everyone else should be. You cannot keep up with technology. If you want to, you would either be very poor or very unsatisfied:)

This is true.

While I would like this device, I will not be buying again for some time, having shelled out $1400 on the N97.

I too am happy with my N97, although I admit one of my biggest disapointments with the N97 is not being able to play divx movies, even though the N97 was billed as a multimedia player with capacity for storing many large movies.

Be interesting to see if nztechfreak gets one to try.

I'm looking forward to possibly using one at some point.

I've had a quick play within one in the last month and was VERY impressed :)

Heh, I'll definitely be getting one! Also looking at the Sony Rachael later in the year too...

The N900 is the handset that the N97 should have been, those specs are right up there with the i8910 (apart from worse camera). It has a more ideal screen resolution though for browsing, and a physical keyboard, so its probably goot enough overall to make me downgrade the camera and be happier overall with my handset... I'm always keen to try a new OS...

I figured you might.

I'm reading up on it at the mo...

If Maemo has plenty support, lots of apps available with ongoing support from developers...in particular I would want Twitter and Sports Tracker apps....then I will seriously look at purchasing myself.

My biggest concern is that should the N900 and Maemo not take off, one could be left with an unsupported OS that nobody makes apps for.

Interestingly, Skype's just been released for S60v5, exclusively for the "3" Networks, in UK, Ireland, Italy, Sweden and Denmark..... Downloaded and installed on my N97, but before letting you any further, checks if you are in one of these networks.

I imagine it will be a matter of time before:

a) Someone cracks the app so any S60v5 phone can use it
or
b) Skype do as we've been hoping and release the version across all units as mentioned before in the forum.

Bring it on!

Its been available for quite some time, just not official on all networks.

Speculation is that Skype will be released to the N97 for all network use in the next firmware update, v20, which is coming this September...or at least thats the rumors...
