I want a pair of headphones (full over the head style) I am not an audiophile and any sort of headphone will sound better than standard ipod earphones. For a start you can cross out the cheap ones which are built so they are prone to breaking and have rubbish padding on the ear muffs which will wear through / deteriorate in a month or so. Ideally looking around the $50 mark. Been looking at sennheiser / sony / panasonic Wanting recommendations, what ones are good what ones aren't, what would you recommend?

Phillips, in terms of cheap headphones Phillips are leagues above the rest. http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=97268 http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=258028 Both you can get from DSE and both are a absolute steal. If you dont believe me just do a google, that second link comapres to $300 headphones (though not as robust, but good for the price).

I love my foldable sennheisers. I do take care of them and always keep them in the case. They make my bus commute a pleasure Cheers

Open to more opinions keep them coming, post links pictures stories anything I am not looking for foldable ones. I will use them only at home for ipod / computer so i can hear sounds in music you can't hear with standard ear buds

I would encourage you to stretch your budget nearer to the $200 mark, but regardless of price point I strongly recommend Sennheiser. Within your budget you should avoid noise cancelling headphones as you'll have to make significant compromises with these if you're spending any less than $300.

yea im not worried if they are noise cancelling or not as i am not using them around much noise. I want to stick with my budget too ideally around $50 but can stretch that up to $100 if i am getting good bang for my buck. I was initially going to just get a pair for around $20 but figured i might as well get something a bit better.

Wish there was an option to select units with a built in Mic to use with a phone. Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat New Zealand as a Solution Architect for all things Linux, Virtual and of course Cloud. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

I'm redeveloping the site once I get through my busy summer period, I'll add that to the list thanks :) Other ideas on how the site could be better would be appreciated. In general sound quality and a built in microphone seem to be mutually exclusive, in my experience, though it's not a hard and fast rule. They have a Headphone wall where you can try them all out. Take in your music and have a listen.

Just been having a googlethon. I know if i spent more i could get better but i really want to stick to my budget for now. Philips shp-2000 $16 Panasonic rp-ht160e-k / rp-ht161 about $25 don't know the difference between the two models look the same and the same price Sennheiser hd 201 $39.99 Sony mdr xd 100 $49
