Hi All,

As you can see im new to the forum and had a question for those out there who know about HDMI.

Basically I have just purchased a new 51" Samsung Plasma that unfortunately has no audio out.

I have a PS3 and a MySky Decoder and a Stereo Amplifier that has 3 HDMI input and 1 HDMI output.

What im wanting to know is can i plug the Mysky and PS3 into the HDMI inputs on the amp then another HDMI going from the amp output to my television. I guess what im trying to work out is will the video from the sky and ps3 travel through the amplifier then to my TV?

Or will i have to get a splitter and have 1 to the amp and 1 to the tv from each device?

Thanks for your help

You should be fine. The AMP should pass the HDMI audio through to the TV.

That is the point of the three HDMI ports on the AMP. They allow you to feed up to three devices to a TV or similar. You will however most likely need to have the AMP on whenever using any of the devices. Both sound and video go across the HDMI cable.
There will be instructions in the manual for the AMP that tell you how to set it all up.

Thanks for that!

Wasn't sure if the AMP would pass through only the Audio or both the Audio and Video

What, not even optical?
It probably does have audio out via the HDMI input and/or optical. Check the user manual. With no audio out at all you wouldn't get any surround sound capability from 5.1 TV programmes.

I got a cheap DAC off ebay to get analog from my TV, and also a cable that is USB at one end and a 2.1mm DC plug at the other so I can power it off one of the many USB ports on the TV. Works out quite well since the DAC makes a horrid noise when it has no audio input, so with the TV off it is powered down.

Still looking for a ~10cm optical cable to remove the excess behind the TV tho.

If both the TV and Amp support HDMI 1.4 then you should be able to take advantage of the Audio Return Channel (ARC) feature.  Basically it will return the audio signal including 5.1 digital from your TV back through to the Amp.

The ultimate answer is - what sort of receiver / amp do you have?

Why spend time posting on here, why not just try it?
