Im running PS3 media server direct to my 55 inch Samsung TV through DNLA and find on SD video image quality is pretty poor.
If I run the same SD video through PS3 media server on my Xbox 360 or my mates WD Live TV picture looks much better and crisper.

Is this just due to Samsung TV build in media player being poor or lower resolution, and is there a way to change resolution. I wounder if image difference is becaue Xbox etc are upscaling it to 1080p as thats what I have them set on.

But would be much better if I did not have to run all media through Xbox as does not have same codex support.

Any advise would be great thanks.

Is the content being transcoded to something else (maybe lower quality) for the TV?

Most of those media servers need to know what the TV can handle natively - and just pass on to the TV, or when the TV cant cope to transcode to something that it can handle.

Is there a setup somewhere in the media server that knows what your model/make TV can and cant handle?

Play the same file directly off a thumb drive on the TV to see whether it's the TV's media player or the media server transcoding it.

tvs are a pain in that it takes ages to get the inputs having the same settings. if they are on different picture mides that would explain the difference.
