I have this Panasonic UT50 plasma, and I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to configure it. Some genius decided that the NZ/AU models should have handicapped setup menus with different terminology for most of the settings and some settings excluded altogether vs the US models. This is something I also noticed with the V20.

Anyway, the US model has a "HDMI/DVI RGB Range: Standard/Nonstandard" setting, which I'm sure is used to make the stupid TV display 0-225 RGB correctly. I think that setting is "DVI Input Setting: Normal/Full" on the NZ model, and I see it in my manual, but it is completely absent from the menu of the actual TV. It's supposed to be right between 16:9 Overscan and Pixel Orbiter, but it's not there. Does anyone know how to make it appear?

You won't see it with an HDMI cable if that is what you are using.

Oh and no, it won't display Full RGB, that will be converted to 4:2:2 internally. Even my GT50 and the VT50 can't do RGB 4:4:4, its YrCbpr 4:4:4 at best.

I was using a DVI to HDMI cable, but Nvidia still treats it as "HDMI" (and audio works etc.). I tried forcing a custom resolution. Have you ever seen this mysterious "DVI Input Setting" on your TVs?

Is there any way I can get the PC to look half decent on these plasmas? If I give them 0-255, then colours are oversaturated and blacks are completely crushed. If I feed them 16-235, then there is no such thing as black and everything is completely washed out.

That sounds like a good reason why the TV isn't convinced it is receiving DVI.

A DVI-D cable or adaptor somewhere in the chain would be a good idea as that shouldn't allow audio to pass and should be seen by the TV as a DVI source rather than an HDMI one.

What exactly do you have in mind? It's already DVI-D at one end, the cable is exactly like this:

Hmm, that must surely be NVIDIA trying to be smart then. Not sure what the best way to override it would be, but I'm sure there is something that can be done.

After reading a lot about manually editing registry strings and modifying nv_disp.inf prior to install, I came across a substantially simpler solution. This tool: http://www.toastyx.net/cru-preview.zip

All I had to do was select the TV and uncheck "Include extension block". After a reboot the TV was now listed as a "DVI - PC display" in NVIDIA CP, with all the normal PC resolutions.

And finally the elusive "DVI Input Setting" revealed it'self in the TV's OSD.

One small step for... well, nothing according to you. :) You say the TV will convert it to 4:2:2 internally? So theoretically I could have got equal results with the connection in HDMI mode and NVIDIA CP set to YrCbpr 4:4:4 or something? Well the DVI/TV:Full method I'm using now does look better to me than anything that I could get in HDMI mode, but that's probably because I was doing something wrong, or NVIDIA CP was broken in some way or another.

Glad to hear you got it sorted.

The TV probably performs the conversion to 4:2:2 better than the PC side of things, so it might not be a total waste of time going the DVI route. As you say, it looks better and so it sounds like it is worth doing.
