I had skimmed the manual of my UT50 prior to purchasing it and I was under the impression that it was capable of scheduling records from the EPG. But now that I have it, I can't find a way to do this, and it seems that the 'Timer Programming' part of the manual was only for the AU model. It appears that all I have, as with the V20, is a worthless push-to-record function. Is this correct?

Yup.
If you buy a TV with the impression that it'll work well as a recording device... well, you're going to have a bad time.

TVs are designed as viewing devices.
Recorders are designed for recording.
Ergo. Don't expect ant TV to offer a recording function other than an extremely limited function to SD card or USB.

I guess my question is: Why is our extremely limited functionality more limited than Australia's extremely limited functionality?

Maybe because our Freeview system is differnt to theirs and possibly Freeview Certification is more strict here?
Don't really know.
Another good reason to jump the ditch?
