Hi there, I would like to add to my current 2.1 setup, and have a few questions as to what to look for.

Firstly should I be buying a centre speaker from the same brand or family as my fronts? Kef C5's.

Is it ok to use a different brand? If so how can I go about selecting the right type of speaker?

I am very limited budget wise, and shopping on Trademe. We are in the middle of a few of DIY projects on the house that consume most of my budget.

Any advice appreciated

In theory, yes, stick to the same series of centre speaker.

Depends on you receiver too, If its an upmarket one with a very good mic EQ set up then it should be able to "timbre match" the center to the fronts.

My opinions are purely my own and are not at all those of my employer 2degrees.

Having recently gone through this exercise, I would suggest not only the same brand, but ideally the same model/range.

I had a Kef XQ centre and the front's where Kef Coda's, and the sound was noticeably different.  When I upgraded the front's to XQ's it resulted it a much better sound.
