thelimoman: Hmmm... This looks pretty interesting. A shame it's not the SSD version, although I guess 750gb is nothing to complain about.

There is something weird going on with that page. The spec description is a bit screwed up I think. It lists a 17.3" screen and 3.3 kg weight.....

At least they've listed the right model number so you can Google the specs!

I was just at Noel Leeming, and they had an Ativ Book 9 Plus on display. That screen is INSANE. The store didn't have internet so all their computers (apart from the new Surface's) weren't running 8.1 which meant the scaling was horrible, but it was still super impressive. The trackpad felt awesome too, a silky smooth glass finish and gestures worked really well. It's a shame it's only an i5/4gb model, cause it's an awesome buy with the 20% off Labour weekend sale. I think they just announced an i7/8gb version, although I'd rather have the Yoga...

Speaking of Surface, have you considered the Surface Pro 2? It has a Wacom digitizer built into the screen which will be perfect for your bachelor of design.

The Surface 2 would be awesome but I want a bigger screen. I have an external monitor at home but I want something bigger for on the go as well :)

Lenovo have the T440 and T440p up, hopefully this means we'll get the T440s soon :D

Just found out that Sony are selling the i7/8gb/256 Vaio Pro 13 online. At $2600 it's out of reach but damn that would be perfect :(

I'm a bit weary on the Inspiron side of things... Dell's consumer lines don't seem to have the best rep!

T440s available from Lenovo now... $2600 for the i7/8gb/256gb model. Same price as the Vaio Pro, but a slightly larger screen. And only an extra $60 for the 6 cell rear battery (17+ hours of battery life!).

Obviously still out of my budget though :(

Thinkpad Yoga available now... I just wish they'd made it at least 13", because otherwise it's very sharp. $2460 for the i7/8gb/256gb plus Wacom pen and AC wireless (for future proofing). Really it's what the Helix should have been! I just wish screen size was something I could compromise on!

The QHD+ XPS 15 is on sale for $2300... even though I wanted an SSD that's just a bit too hard to refuse. I guess the 32GB portion I can fit the OS and a few programs like CC/CS. Hmmm. I might just take the plunge. I'll happily live through any display scaling problems for that price and apparently it's 100% sRGB as well!

Nice! I ummed and ahhed all weekend trying to decide between the T440S and the Thinkpad Yoga, and finally decided to go for the Yoga. Got a nearly maxed out model (i7-4500U, 8GB, 256GB SSD, FHD + digitizer/pen) for about $1950. I hope the 12.5" screen will be okay - I currently have a 13.3" 16:10 screen, so it'll be a big drop in vertical space. Hopefully the increased portability will make up for it. If not... I guess I'll test out Lenovo's policy of a no questions asked free return within 2 weeks of delivery, and wait for the next big sale to get a T440S.

There is this 13.3" QHD (2560x1440) HP laptop on sale from HP in the US, with 20% off using voucher 'PC999CM'  for under US$1000.  Can customise it to i7, 8GB RAM and 64bit, and with YouShop shipping and added GST should still come in at about NZ$1300.

I would have figured it would be more like:

$1140 NZD with discount applied(950 USD)
~$100-150 youshop
Which is $230-240 duty on top

Which makes it the 1.4-1.5k range
