Congrats. Would be interested to hear what you think of it when you have used it a bit.

The Verge has a quick walkthrough of it here: http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/5/4696808/toshiba-encore-8-inch-windows-8-1-tablet-hands-on

The Dell was a bargain on the Microsoft store on Monday for US$199. Despite being able to order this I couldn't pay for it from the Microsoft store, several credit cards and travel cards along with eBay were all rejected as payment. :-(

IIRC Microsoft deals were in-store only - no online purchase and also only 20(?) per store at that price, then a further lot at US$299.

Probably just needs resetting. Read the instructions on how to restart, as probably stuck in sleep mde. My surface rt does this a lot, and I think it is due to the windows software, rather than hardware related.

I seem to notice this too with my Asus Vivotab. After a long period in sleep mode, one click of the power button won't seem to wake the tablet up requiring me to long press the power button.

I had tried various combinations of what could be a reset or awake to no avail
then i just tried it then .....some cmination maybe depress power key with audio key ....whatever and it woke up
might just change the slep settings as I mainly only use at home these days
also look into how to do a hard reset if need be
saves me a trip to Noel's

I looked at all 4, the Toshiba, DELL, Lenovo and Acer and decided to personally buy the Dell Venue 8 Pro for myself, they are all pretty similar though

it was the right combination of fit & finish, price, slimness, rubberised feel to the casing

Really neat little machine, especially when you delete the recovery partition, or move it onto a USB key and put another 64GB microSD card in the tablet

Speed with the Baytrail is pretty impressive.  As is the Miracast wireless display.  DELL also have a neat magnetic keyboard coming out in January as well

PayPal works. I used my YouShop address today to buy 12 months Xbox Music Pass for $50 from US Microsoft Store. You need to close your browser window if you are going to try and pay with PayPal during same browsing session when your credit card payments failed directly via the Microsoft Store.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Hi all, I have just bought an encore 8 32gb. It is a very nice tablet, but i seem to have an uneven backlight? its ok at the end where the toshiba logo is, but about 3cm from the opposite end of the display it starts to fade and get darker to the point of about 30% darker at the edge of the screen. do I have a faulty one? or is everyone elses similar. its more noticeable on light colored screens such as googles home page. could someone else just check theres to see if its the same please. thanks.

That is a similar solution for the surface. I presume it is a windows 8 thing, so perhaps a future update may fix it? But it is not like an ipad, where you just press the button and it switches on automatically every time without delay. I am guessing windows 8 has a far bigger footprint that IOS,, which is more lightweight and responsive.

most consumer electronics "reboots or resets" itself by holding down the power button

Surface does too

I don't have a Toshiba Encore here, but its interesting they require the power and windows keys together
