Come on now telecom, this is just pathetic, get your stuff together, can you not even give us an update?

Guys, the background on our (Telecom's) testing process is here. Realise it's not the 'when is update X coming out' answers you're looking for, but will give you an idea of what's happening at our end.

Cheers

P1n3apqlExpr3ss: And here's my article with a One X spin on it

http://www.androidmobile.co.nz/item/1544-telecom-explains-software-update-process-still-no-htc-one-x-update-news

So they have been working on that article since at least last Friday? I suggest they get someone who can think and type a little faster. Bearing in mind that Geekzone is a site for technically minded folk I actually found the PR fluff-piece in the Telecom-tech blog a bit insulting. At least the androidmobile piece referenced above tried to fill in some of the gaps.

Kind of feels like I have just had the middle finger flipped at me and been told to wait. Meanwhile my campaign to ensure anybody who admires my phone knows not to buy a Telecom one continues.

Edit: The only thing I can see redeeming Telecom in my eyes is if we jump straight from 1.26 to 2.05 (I didn't even realise there was a 2.08).

Well reading this, sounds like perhaps the One-X should never have been released.

Now that I have had a chance for some sleep (previous post done after a 'mare of a day at work), I probably got a little too ranty in my previous post. Notwithstanding that I have a few comments/faqs that it would be good if richirvine, in his role as part of the social media team could address.

Is there a problem with the HTC supplied firmware for the One X on the 'smartphone network' ?

Is Telecom's network an orphan that is not replicated anywhere else in the world? If it isn't do those other telcos have similar problems?

If the fact that the updated software doesn't work properly is commercially sensitive/embarassing I'm afraid the fact that your competitors have already released the updates without howls of protest caused by buggy software kind of gives the show away.

You comment that Telecom doesn't approve of the use of 'unoffficial ROMs' but what about the official WWE ROMs released by HTC?

If half of your repair requests are for software issues, how many of them are due to owners rooting and installing custom ROMs because they are sick of waiting with a buggy battery hogging handset ?

What is Telecom's position re warranty on a handset that has been unlocked via htcdev? Is the hardware side of things still covered?

If there is a technical problem affecting the release, tell us and we will get off your case (for a while).

And please do something about your overseas callcentre, they are USELESS!

*singing* Why are we waaaaaiting....

Telecom should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves, their "please, we're doing our best" sob story is a load of crap. I best you they haven't tested diddly AND they haven't even LOOKED at it yet.

In good faith they should let the community Beta-test the update for them - just to show they actually give a damn.

Open beta testing would do a lot more for them than some random Samsung fanboy testing the HOX updates as a lower than low priority.

Apple automatically pushes updates to Telecom, VF iPhones? If so, I don't really get the whole network testing thing...

Same with the Nexus phones, can't really understand what needs testing.

Oh and for the network stuff, the 1.29 update worked perfectly on the Telecom One X (mine was s-off so I wasn't limited like you guys), the 1.26 radios are matched between Telecom and global anyway...

Since they are rather unlikely to publish my blog piece for TelecomTech on purchasing the HOX from Telecom based on software updates for rather obvious reasons I'll dig it out over the weekend, revise it and post it up next week. Although honestly, it's unlikely to change opinions, especially m2geek's xD

As for the unlocking guide and such, I'll try and do that next week, I'm just waiting for a friend to do it since I don't want to do a blind guide

My HOX is my 1st "Flagship" handset i've ever bought, and all I can taste is Acid.

I sold my beloved (nearly brand new) 2012 spec Macbook Pro to buy my HOX. A decision I now regret.

Having worked as a software reseller for many years, I can tell you release testing and management when you are dealing with 3rd party software (or devices) is a PITA.

From experience, a good approach is to continue testing whatever release you're testing, and release it unless you find major issues (worse than the current version that's out there).

Then look what the latest release is at that time, and start on that one.

If you have enough resources, then test new releases in parallel.

I suspect from the delay in releasing for the one X, Telecom must be starting over each time a new update comes out.

The latter approach is a never ending game, assuming that releases come out more frequently than the duration of your test cycle.

The main issue, however, with the former approach, is that when an issue is found, post (or during) testing, it is difficult to get any support from the vendor: the first response is usually "Update to the latest version and see if problem persists".

It may be this risk that Telecom are trying to avoid by not releasing interim updates; this assuming there are no major issues affecting the current release.  But it is not a big risk if the software is reasonably stable and new updates are adding features, rather than fixing major bugs, and I would assume after so many releases, that is the case here.

So I was just reading that firmware 2.15 test software has been on release since 25 July with a possible WWE release (all being well) of 18 August 2012 (year added for Telecom's benefit). Tick, tick, tick Telecom......

When/if they do ever finally update us, I bet we spend the lifetime of the handset 5-6 versions behind the rest of the world because of Telecoms "testing schedule".
